Scouting Report - RHP - Eric Hammond

Eric Hammond

RHP  6-4  175  Keller HS (TX)

PG -

Eric Hammond is a 2021 RHP/IF with a 6-4 175 lb. frame from Keller, TX who attends Keller. Long and lanky square shouldered build, lots of physical projection remaining. High leg lift delivery, deep arm action in back, extended 3/4's arm slot, lots of energy at release but it didn't impact his command in the least, big time arm speed. Fastball topped out at 95 mph, maintained his velocity very well, gets huge life on his fastball at times. Curveball shows power and tight spin when on top of the ball with a high spin rate, will get under it at times for more of a slider look. Some feel for his change up. Arm speed/strength and life on his fastball really stand out. High ceiling young arm.

Prospects Live -

Eric Hammond - He’s been a fun arm to watch this summer. At PG National, Hammond sat in the low-90’s with a high spin fastball and showcased a quality curveball and change-up combination. Hammond’s secondaries would end up being the star of his outing, with the curveball in particular garnering all three of his strikeouts. The pitch sat in the high-70s with very solid spin to it (~2,600 RPM) and tunneled it well with the change-up, which sat in the low-to-mid 80s with great fade to it. The fastball was just as electric too, sitting 92-93 MPH with late life to it, helping set up his secondaries really well. He has great arm speed as well and he could be the top Texas prep arm in this class if this continues.

Prospect Worldwide -

Eric Hammond – RHP: Steadily rising the board with a 4 pitch mix with above spin that he is willing to use in virtually any count. I’m completely buying into Hammond as an elite pitching prospect in this year’s draft. He has everything you want. Projectable frame, Projectable velo boost, plus feel for breaking balls and offspeed, repeatable mechanics, electric arm speed, need I go on? The FB sits 92-94 T95 with more on the way, I can see him sitting 94-95 and touching the upper 90s as he develops. The secondaries are what sets him apart. Featuring 2 Wipeout breaking balls, a heavy downer 12/6 action Curveball that is killer on LHH, and a Slider that equally as lethal vs RHH with plus Horizontal Movement. Rounded out by a Changeup he will throw in any count vs any hitter with extreme confidence.

  3. This kid has it. Saw him on 3/5/21 versus Martin high school and he looked very polished for an 18 year old. Hopefully Rangers are scouting this kid.
