Mets.com: It's
official: McCann a Met with 4-year deal.
Brian Joura Mets360 discussed how The Athletic’s
Keth Law called the move “Unbridled Optimism” and added: “Well, the Mets
just signed James McCann, who Keith Law just referred to as a backup catcher,
to a multi-year deal at significantly more years and dollars than most people
expected.”

Mets sign RHP Jerad Eickhoff to minor-league deal: report. “The contract
will reportedly pay him $1.25 million if he makes the big-league roster, with
up to $750,000 in incentives also part of the deal. Jared Eickhoff
spent five seasons with the Phillies from 2015-2019, where he compiled a 21-30
record with a 4.15 ERA, striking out 396 hitters over 440 innings.”
SNY.TV:
Mets' Dom Smith and J.D. Davis reach Super Two status…”players will have
four years of arbitration eligibility before becoming free agents in 2024”.
Scott Boras
held court via a zoom call yesterday.
Among the items he discussed:
NY
Post: Scott Boras is fan of Steve Cohen’s ‘big apples’. As for McCann, Boras said, “They didn’t let
anybody eat their lunch. They went out and got a Big Mac.”...And Boras also had
kind words for Porter…“They didn’t go out and get the Hamburglar, but they got
themselves a porterhouse”…“the Mets are now shopping in the organic produce
aisle.”
Mets.com:
Michael
Conforto’s agent, Scott Boras, said Tuesday that he wouldn’t anticipate
contract talks to start until the two sides begin arbitration negotiations,
which typically don’t happen until early January. ‘Normally, when you have a
player who’s in arbitration, you kind of prepare for the obvious negotiation,’
Boras said. ‘If there’s anything that Sandy or [general manager] Jared [Porter]
want to do, they kind of let us know later in the process, so that’s something
I have to leave with them.’”
MLB.com:
Boras discusses Bryant, Snell, Scherzer, more.
NY
Post: Mets’ interest in Liam Hendriks hinges on bigger MLB free agency idea.
“But team president Sandy Alderson and new general manager Jared Porter’s
appetite for such an addition could be dictated by whether the Mets add one or
two starters to the rotation and at what level. For instance, if the Mets were
to add two starting pitchers, they could fill a five-man rotation and
comfortably move Seth Lugo back to the bullpen.”
.@sal_licata makes his projections for the Mets' 2021 starting rotation. Could Masahiro Tanaka be an option? 👀

on free agent target George
Springer: Mets GM Jared Porter talks about possibility of signing him: "one
of the premier free agents this offseason," adding that it is "no
secret."
NY
Post: Mets GM Jared Porter could have had an NHL career. “Jared Porter was
a two-sport captain in high school and college and had stronger family bloodlines
in hockey than baseball…’He could have just as easily ended up on the hockey
side,’ Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan, Porter’s cousin, told The Post in a
phone interview Tuesday. ‘But obviously it’s worked out for him, so we’re
thrilled.’”

Keep the signings coming. Liam Hendricks would be very helpful.
ReplyDeletePlus a big free agent. We need a big one.
Springer and Brad Hand
ReplyDelete(I like the lefty in place of the right handed Hendricks)
I kind of like that mlb.com article "5 ideas of what the Mets should do next".
ReplyDeleteI tend to agree with all of them (except the time they spent on exploring a trade with Colorado). The numbers they gave for Conforto's extension seem like a slam dunk if they are willing to go there. I don't see him turning down $21-22M for 5 years now, but with Boras, I think that whole thing will get balled up.
I agree with them in looking at Sugano as as starting pitcher.
Other interesting notes from the day . . the pick one: Springer or Bauer discussions. I have always picked Springer, but the set up the rotation for the post season makes a lot of sense as well. Let's get a quick survey going of the commenters on this site . .one or the other . .who is it?
1969 picks Springer - improves the defense and lineup in more than just one area. Provides a true centerfielder.
