METS NAME JARED PORTER GENERAL MANAGER

FLUSHING, N.Y., December 13, 2020 – The New York Mets today announced that the club has named Jared Porter the team’s 14th General Manager in franchise history. Porter agreed to a four-year contract and will report to team President Sandy Alderson.

Porter, 41, has been an integral part of four World Series championship teams with the Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs. He has spent the last four seasons (November, 2016-2020) as the Senior Vice President and Assistant General Manager for the Arizona Diamondbacks.

“Jared has proven himself at every level and in every position he has held, earning respect from his peers throughout baseball,” said Mets President Sandy Alderson. “He is deeply knowledgeable in all aspects of the game and has worked with several accomplished baseball executives. Jared is prepared for this next challenge.”

Porter was the Director of Professional Scouting/Special Assistant for the Cubs from September of 2015-2016, and was with the team as Chicago captured its first World Series title in 107 years.

"I'd like to thank Steve Cohen and Sandy Alderson for this incredible opportunity,” said Porter. “I'm extremely grateful for the trust they've shown in me. I'm excited to join the community, get to work, and help build a collaborative and sustainable baseball operation and culture for the New York Mets."

Porter worked for the Red Sox in a variety of capacities from 2004-2015, including three championship seasons (2004 – ending an 86-year title drought for Boston, 2007 and 2013). He began as an intern at the Red Sox Spring Training facility in Fort Myers, FL before moving to Boston to continue as an intern. He served as the Player Development Assistant from 2006-2007 and then as Coordinator of Professional Scouting from 2008-2009. Porter was promoted to the Assistant Director of Professional Scouting in 2010, a role he held until 2012, when he became the club’s Director of Professional Scouting. Porter remained in that position until leaving to join the Cubs.

Porter, a native of Wayzata, MN, attended high school at Thayer Academy in Braintree, MA and graduated from Bowdoin College (ME) in 2003 with a degree in history. Porter played baseball and hockey for Bowdoin and was the captain of both teams his senior season. He broke into the game as an intern in the Cape Cod League for the Brewster Whitecaps from 2002-2003.
