SNY.TV: Martino: Mets aren't interested in a Trevor Bauer bidding war.

SNY.TV: Mets' Jacob deGrom ranked as top pitcher in baseball by MLB Network.

Mets.com: The Top 100 prospects for '21, team by team.  Mets have 4 on the list - #48. Francisco Alvarez, C (ETA: 2023); #67. Ronny Mauricio, RHP (ETA: 2022); #75. Matthew Allan, RHP (ETA: 2023); #94. Brett Baty, 3B (ETA: 2022).

Metsmerized Online: Four Mets Make Keith Law’s Top-100 Prospect List. Keith Law of The Athletic ranks Fransisco Alvarez at # 19; Ronny Mauricio # 32, Matthew Allan # 90, and Pete Crow-Armstrong # 94.

Metstradamus: The Other One That Escaped To The North. “Well this wasn’t so much of an escape as it was a relocation…But from 2017-20, Matz not only couldn’t take the next step, but regressed big time, going 18-33 with and ERA of 4.83 and a WHIP of  1.363. He gave up more home runs per nine innings and walked more per nine and that’s never a great forumla.”

Faith and Fear in Flushing: Steven couldn’t have started stronger, just as he couldn’t have ended worse. In between, he settled in as a familiar if ultimately frustrating figure.

90 Percent Mets: Farewell Steven.

SNY.TV: State of Mets' rotation after Steven Matz trade, including outlook for Seth Lugo and Noah Syndergaard. Now, the heir apparent to the No. 5 spot would appear to be Joey Lucchesi, which is something that could easily change in the coming days and weeks, depending on what happens with Trevor Bauer and other potential moves.

MLB.com: The man who got 2 hits for 2 teams in 1 day.  Joel Youngblood reminisces about Aug. 4, 1982 when he got a hit for the Mets and the Expos.

1989

The game-winning RBI statistic is dropped with Mets' first baseman Keith Hernandez being the all-time leader with 129 GW RBIs, and Orioles' first baseman Eddie Murray led the American League with 117 in the nine-year span the stat existed. The defunct rule, which was first employed in 1980, was much maligned by many players because the stat did not truly reflect clutch performance.

2006

In a surprising development, former Mets backstop Mike Piazza and the National League West champion Padres come to terms on a one-year, $2 million deal. The 37 year-old future Hall of Famer, who will be behind the plate for 90 to 100 games this season in addition to playing some first base and DHing in interleague contests, was thought to be headed to an American League team to be a full time designated hitter.

2008

A conditional 4-for-1 trade with the Twins brings Johan Santana to the Mets in exchange for pitching prospects Philip Humber, Kevin Mulvey, Deolis Guerra, and fleet-footed outfielder Carlos Gomez. New York has three days to come to terms with the two-time Cy Young Award winner, who has a no-trade clause and can veto the transaction if his new team is unable to sign him.

Baseball Reference.com:

2000 - The New York Mets announce that singer Garth Brooks will participate in spring training with the team. Brooks worked out last spring with the San Diego Padres going 1 for 22 for a .045 batting average.

  1. Sergio Ferrer? Looked him up...5'7" 145. His hitting matched his size: diminutive. Closer to Eddie Gaedel than Pete Alonso.

If LAD really wants Bauer, does anyone really think the Mets will win out on him, whether you think Bauer would be good or bad to bring in?

Will Matz win 20? One of the most disappointing Mets for me in a long time.

Almost February - things oughta be finalizing soon.

Baseball expects to decide on NL DH by August 1. Not saying which year or decade.

  2. Tom,

Sergio Ferrrer is on a very short list of Yankees that were traded to the Mets. The Mets traded 3B Roy Staiger to the Yankees for Sergio.

  3. Anthony Recker in the SNYTv clip says it perfectly!

  4. Recker was persuasive. We'll see where Bauer lands. I wonder if he'd take 1 year, $40 million, to prove to everyone last year was no fluke.

If he won't agree to that, I will take out my mitt and start getting prepped. I am willing to sign for less than that.

  5. :-) At this point in my life with my shoulder woes, I'm not sure I could throw that pill even 60'. But, yea, I'll take a few dollars less than $40M.
