RHP 6-4 Kent State

12-16-20 - kent state -

Kent State right hander Luke Albright was named to the top-100 2021 draft prospects by MLB Pipeline dot com.

The 6-4 righty checked in at number 85 on the top 100 list. He went 2-2 in four starts last season for the Golden Flashes, successfully making the transition to starter after being named All-Conference as a freshman reliever. Albright led the Golden Flashes in innings pitched (22.1) as well as strikeouts (22). The Fishers, Indiana native finished the season strong, with six shutout innings in a win over Winthrop and six innings against Liberty, allowing just one run. The Mid-American Conference named him the Pitcher of the Week for his efforts against Winthrop. Albright went at least five innings in each of his four starts and allowed no more than two runs.

Albright continued to throw well into the summer, participating in the Grand Park Summer League. In limited work, Albright struck out over two batters an inning over the summer. His curve ball was rated as having the highest spin rate in the league, a metric that translates very well in baseball analytics.

The scouting report on Albright recognizes his curve ball as one of his best pitches. The righty features the curve along with a slider/cutter, low 90s fastball and a change-up. It is a four-pitch mix that gives him starter potential at the major league level according to MLB Pipeline.
