In the words of President Bartlett from the "West Wing"; what's next? Everyone keeps pointing to Bauer, maybe but what if it's a trade with the NL Central? Maybe the Cubs for Bryant and Hendricks or how about the Reds for Gray and Suarez? Thor tweeted earlier today: "Something bigs coming", not sure if that'a a bigger horse to ride into Spring Training on or Bauer or maybe his buddy Bryant. Cohen talked about using the Dodgers as a model and they took on big salaries with their new ownership and went flying past the CBT level. Bauer costs draft picks and international money along with a high AAV, take on enough salary in a trade and not much has to go out. With Bryant, Thor and Stroman all free agents next year, tag them all and get lots of draft capital. Exciting to think about.
ReplyDeleteGreat post Jeff. I hope it is Bryant and Hendricks and not Bauer. Bryant & Hendricks would improve our team more than Bauer and provide the Mets with more alternatives (without losing other chips as you mentioned).
ReplyDeleteTrying to dump salary while build triple A depth. Since Diaz and Reid-Foley were both on Toronto's 40 man roster, Mets are now at capacity. Reid-Foley has one MiLB option left and Diaz two according to fan graphs.
ReplyDeleteMore to come. Rumor has it that a deal to trade Familia in a similar move is coming as well.
ReplyDeleteFYI, Angels are apparently out on Bauer.
A similar move for Familia would free up a lot of cap space. For some teams out there, he would be a closer upgrade, I'd imagine.
ReplyDeleteJeff, very interesting. The Matz deal signals absolutely that more big things are coming. Great. Bryant and Hendricks would be interesting alternatives to Bauer and ????
