Don't be surprised if there's buzz here when the Mets pick 10th overall (I know they never pop prep arms in the 1st rd, but still.. Jersey kid too)
Mack’s spin - I have other favorite for the Mets first pick, but I would also be very happy if the Mets picked Perry.
He would look great on some other roster after we trade him someday for a 30+ year old guy.

# 10 - New York Mets
Adrian Del Castillo
C/1B/LF, Miami
Del Castillo may be the best college bat in this draft class. The Mets would be giddy to pounce and add his polish and close-to-immediate contributions to their system. He's a bat-first catcher with strong recognition of the zone and a smooth, lofty swing. During the off-season, Del Castillo worked with Royals catcher Salvador Perez on his defense, developing better receiving and strike-stealing skills. If he shows he could stick behind the plate at the next level, there's a good chance he buoys even further up our draft board. The Mets are primed to compete for NL East titles immediately moving forward, and it wouldn't surprise us to see Del Castillo in their lineup during the latter-half of 2022.
Mack’s spin -
This would make me very happy but I’m not going to hold my breath here.
I know out top prospect is a catcher but you can’t have enough of these rare birds. This is the best in this draft and maybe the best bat as well.

I really think there is a ton of Ben Zobrist in Cody Morissette. From the swing, the natural loft, the all-fields approach, the plate discipline, even the versatility to roam around the field, he can impact the game in a number of ways.
The concerns on the profile will be whether or not you’re comfortable and confident the bat is going to impact the baseball enough to warrant a big league regular role. I think he has that upside, and his versatility should buoy that as well.
Morissette really began hitting the ball a lot harder in 2020, as well as lifting the ball. If he continues that trend and hits eight or nine home runs in 2021, he just might play himself into the middle of the first round.
Mack’s spin - Morissette is another of those prospects that have been moving up on the charts, even though no games are being played.
I am not a big fan of his bat, but he will be drafted on Day 2 because he is is still very talented.
1-19-21 - BLEED CUBBIE BLUE -
The Georgia prep catcher Harry Ford would make for an interesting discussion, if on the board at 21. Catcher in three or four years might not seem an organizational weakness, but Ford seems flexible enough to go elsewhere, as needed. Time spent researching potential choices at 21 both relaxes you on the likelihood of quality there, and screams that the likely quality doesn't stop anywhere near 21. Which is why it's useful to follow a college team until MLB season starts. More teams than you might think are bringing 97 or higher out of the bullpen, late. Oh, to harness some command, as well.
Mack’s spin -
I consider this a catcher rich draft where at least four might be picked in the first round. Ford is one of them.
Adrian del Castillo should be the first to go, long gone before we pick. Henry Davis should be next and is one of my two top targets. But if both of them are gone, Ford might be hard to pass on.

Yes, we may already have a great catching prospect but he is still so young. Drafting another excellent one is not a bad idea.
ReplyDeleteDel Castillo would be a must draft. Might be the best catcher in the last 10 drafts.
ReplyDeleteDavis is one of my two favorites along with RHP Andrew Painter
Mack, I think I like Wicks over Ford. I prefer the pitcher over any position player if it’s close.
ReplyDeleteTex
ReplyDeleteHe is REALLY talented.
Mack could you see with all the talent a scenario where Leiter falls to 10?
ReplyDeleteHe could, but I just don't see the fascination here.
DeleteI see him as around the 5th most talented RHSP in this draft.
Thanks Mack that’s why your the best
