NY Post: Mets’ Taijuan Walker using analytics to become better pitcher.  “Walker, after digesting the numbers, added a two-seam fastball and converted his cutter into more of a slider. No longer looking to boost his strikeout totals, the 28-year-old Walker says he is comfortable pitching to contact and conserving his bullets.

SNY.TV: Mets needlessly playing with fire if Michael Conforto, Francisco Lindor enter season without extensions.

SNY.TV: Mets’ Michael Conforto suggests ideas for improved MLB pay system “The primary issue for me is competition. We want this to be a competitive league. We want all 30 teams trying to win. I guess there is no perfect league out there, but we can make it better. We can do things to incentivize winning and not incentive losing.”

NY Post: Michael Conforto doesn’t want Mets to fall into this trap “…you can fall into this mode of thinking that you’re better than you are. You’re not good unless you win a lot of games, that’s just plain and simple. And we haven’t done that yet.”

213 Miles From Shea: Get To Know A 2021 Non-Roster Invitee: Tylor Megill. “He was drafted in the 8th round in 2018 and could see some time in Queens this year, otherwise he’ll break into the bigs next year. Tylor is 6’7″ which is one of those things you can’t teach a pitcher.”

The Braves sign the University of Southern California hurler Tom Seaver, but Commissioner William Eckert nullifies the contract due to rules that govern the signing of college players. The right-hander, who is declared ineligible by USC, will become available to any team, except Atlanta, willing to match the original contract in a lottery, which the Mets will win that also included bids by the Indians and the Phillies.

  1. I LOVE SAVING "BULLETS" - SMART PITCHER:

  2. Well, pitching to contact is not good because contact can be harmful, even weak contact has killed Syndergaard at times. But, whatever...

Betances adjusting to lower velocity? Great. How do the Yankees always seem to know when to let go of a player, and how do the Mets learn this?

  3. Walker has impressed me with his preparedness, intelligence, self-awareness.

If healthy, he'll be an excellent #4.

Yes, strikeouts are the best result a pitcher can achieve. And one of the best general indicators of future success (or not). But not everybody has that ability. Walker's K-rates still play. In terms of working deep in games, weak early contact can be effective.

I look forward to watching him work.

  4. Pitching to contact doesn't work for Mets Pitchers because the Mets can't catch the ball. Hopefully with McCann behind the plate and Lindor at SS this year it will be better.

I like Walker as well. Think he will be solid this year.
