I LOVE SAVING "BULLETS" - SMART PITCHER:
ReplyDelete“Walker, after digesting the numbers, added a two-seam fastball and converted his cutter into more of a slider. No longer looking to boost his strikeout totals, the 28-year-old Walker says he is comfortable pitching to contact and conserving his bullets.
Well, pitching to contact is not good because contact can be harmful, even weak contact has killed Syndergaard at times. But, whatever...
ReplyDeleteBetances adjusting to lower velocity? Great. How do the Yankees always seem to know when to let go of a player, and how do the Mets learn this?
Walker has impressed me with his preparedness, intelligence, self-awareness.
ReplyDeleteIf healthy, he'll be an excellent #4.
Yes, strikeouts are the best result a pitcher can achieve. And one of the best general indicators of future success (or not). But not everybody has that ability. Walker's K-rates still play. In terms of working deep in games, weak early contact can be effective.
I look forward to watching him work.
Jimmy
Pitching to contact doesn't work for Mets Pitchers because the Mets can't catch the ball. Hopefully with McCann behind the plate and Lindor at SS this year it will be better.
ReplyDeleteI like Walker as well. Think he will be solid this year.
