You are just not going to get good offense and good defense from a backup catcher. Hell, it's hard to find in a starter.
I am content with Nido's defense -- and the continuity and stability he brings to the staff in a year of high turnover -- and accept his limited offense.
Which has, not for nothing, showed signs of improvement. If asked to choose, I'd go with defense in that role over offense.
