Diaz May Loup Castro Familia Betances (I don't think SA cuts him this soon) Barnes (no option) Montgomery (don't know if he has an option or not)
That leaves: Smith (DL, sore shoulder) Vizcaino (DL, sore elbow) Gsellman down (sucks) Tarpley (might take Montgomery's slot) Hunter (like him, he's been on the bump before, but) Blevens (sucks) Yamamoto (needs innings) Hildenberger Oswalt (needs innings) Nogosek McWilliams (needs a LOT of innings) Reid-Foley Zamora Eickhoff (cut this guy) De La Cruz Gilliam
Thoughts? Again, I just don't see Sandy cutting Betances out of the gate. Team options are going to be huge (for example, Barnes makes the team or he walks, while Gsellman can, and should, be send down).
I believe Montgomery is being stretched out, and has starter experience, so my preference is for Yamamoto to get consistent work in AAA. We'll likely see him before the season is over.
I agree with your 8. I so hope they don't try to go with 9 bullpen arms.
Some of the remaining 16 may go all the way to Binghamton. Blevins will probably retire. I can see Gilliam going to AA. Harol Gonzalez and Kilome are also on the team. Some others of your "that leaves" group may opt out to try their luck with another team.
The Athletic had a piece on Barnes. It was Hefner that pushed the Mets to get him and Hefner suggested some different approaches to Barnes. After he came in with 1st and 2nd and no outs today and got the side out with no runs scoring, I think he will stay.
Luv my Lindor - dude is smoking.
ReplyDeleteThat is ugly . .four outs on the bases today????? Ugh ..

Jimmy
Jimmy, I think you are very close.
ReplyDeleteI am wondering if Betances will stay behind on an IL for some extended spring.
I don't know what to think about Barnes. I do like Tarpley, but I think Montgomery will win between the two of them.
I also think Yamamoto sticks if Betances doesn't come north - long guy or alternating with Lucchesi as the 5th/swing starter.
