  1. What’s with Riley Bashlor Gilliam?

  2. Wasn’t expecting McNeil and Lindor to open the spring a combined 3 for 35.

  3. I don’t know how to say this without sounding spoiled, but...

When the Mets drafted Riley Gilliam, he was supposed to rocket through the minors, I even heard “he can go to the majors right now”. Well, a few years later he still doesn’t have any control and I just don’t see Thai guy getting major league outs. I’m glad they kept him to keep evaluating him and it was good to put him in a pressure cooker to see what he’s got. Problem is, he may be more of a thrower than a pitcher, but right now he isn’t even spotty yet. I know that Vientos’ error kept him from escaping the inning, but the wild pitch and not picking up his teammates is not MLB ready.

  4. He sure has not looked good this Spring Gus. After the lack of consistent playing time in 2020, it may be hard to tell if a player doesn't have it or if they are just rusty. We may not know the answer to that until sometime in 2022.

In 2019 he bounced around St. Lucie, Binghamton and Syracuse. I think the best thong for him would be to play the full year in Binghamton so he can get consistent work. If he excels, they can always move him up to Syracuse.

  5. Gus, I took a look at Gilliam in his career above AA, which consists of 2019 AAA and his spring training outings since turning pro:

16.2 IP, 32 H, 11 BB, 17 K, 7 HRs allowed, 26 runs. Those numbers speak for themselves. Gilliam has his work cut out for him.
