Just saw on GameDay that Vilar, Pillar and Jose Martinez got up consecutively, and I thought, "there were seasons where those 3 would have been full time Mets starters, but not in the Cohen era."
Jimmy, I. agree. A guy with a lock on a roster spot need not bring his A game this early. But if you are vying for a spot and your chances are shaky, you really want to be lights out.

ReplyDeleteFirst game - pitchers were told not to go all out. First week of Spring Training usually has uneven results.
ReplyDeletePitchers usually ahead of batters in first couple of weeks of Spring.
ReplyDeleteVeterans with guaranteed roles might ease into it, but if you are a bubble guy looking to impress, you are bringing whatever you've got.
