Mack - “Bullet Points” - Tyler Hardman, Ian Concevitch, Kyle Battle, Danny Hosley, Jay Devito

Good morning.

Earlier this week, we started a new weekly feature where we highlighted five dark horse candidates for the draft.

This week’s bonus second post stars now:

1B    Tyler Hardman    Oklahoma

Through 4-14, he leads the nation with a .472 batting average

He is also 2nd in the nation in OBP, with 58 hits and 28 walks, in 123-AB (.563)

Was named the Mid-Season All-American by D1 Baseball.

 RHP    Ian Concevitch    St. Peter’s

The red shirt senior leads the nation (as of 4-14) with an 0.00 ERA. The downside is this only comes after one start, a complete seven inning game.

Concevitch placed an ad online looking for a team to play on in 2021

( https://baseballjobsoverseas.com/players/ian- concevitch/ ) . St. Peter’s answered the ad and, as they say, the rest is history.

Imagine how great of a story this is going to be if he turns out to be a major league pitcher.

OF Kyle Battle Old Dominian

As of 4-14, the senior outfielder leads the nation with 33 walks in 29 games.

The reason being might be because he has a .636 slugging percentage, and eight home runs. He also has only struck out 14 times in 99-AB.

Hit .367 with five doubles, two triples, three home runs and 16 RBIs in 2020.

RHP
   Danny Hosley    Norfolk State

Norfolk State senior RHP, Danny Hosley, has pitched in seven games so far this season (as of 4-14). He has started in six of them.

He has complete games in five of them.

Who does this this early in the season?

His full 2021 stat line is:

7-G, 6-ST, 5-CG, 4-1, 2.33, 0.93, 46.1-IP, 47-K

Holsey converted to pitching after playing third, short, and behind the plate last year.

Whatever.

PC: School

SS Jay Devito    Central Connecticut State University

Junior Jay Devito is (as of 4-14) currently ranked 5th in the nation with a .548-OBP (59-AB, 21-H, 21-BB, 4-HBP)

2020: Played in six games, hit a team-best .333…Had a run scored and two RBIs…Had two hits with a run and RBI at Stony Brook (3/7)…Had two hits against Lehigh (3/1).

  1. Hardman and Battle look especially interesting as dark horses. Some stats - like a guy dominating in high school, except they are in college.

Where do the rankers rank these guys, I'm curious?

  2. None are ranked in the top 200 so I expect all of them to be Day 3 picks.

  3. So Mack, you got me hooked on looking at these prospective draft picks, whether it be college or prep. What other sites are there that do additional rankings or give more info? I see the MLB.com top 100, but that seems pretty out of date - no updates for this spring's work. I tried Baseball America, but without a subscription, I can't see much. Any others?

  4. Most are now behind firewalls.

Gonna have to stick with me.
