Mack - Draft Players To Target in Later Rounds

Good morning.

The Mets pick 1.10, 2.46, 3.81, and 4.111 in the 2021 draft,

We always talk about the pick at 1.10, but this is a deep draft, especially for positions like RHP, OF, and SS,

Here are three names to remember that willmost probably still be on the board when the Mets pick, plus a little background on them.

I will update this list throughout the time leading up to the draft,

So, first, who should still be on the board at:

2.46 -

LHP Doug Nikhazy Ole Miss

Current rank: 8th top lefty

#2 starter at Ole Miss… only 5-10… 3-pitch mix that includes an 89-91 fastball out of a 3/4 high slot, a + 12-6 mid-70s curve, and a low-80s change with fade.

Current stat line (as of 4-12) -

6-ST, 3-1, 2.43, 29.2-IP, 47-K

OF Daylin Lile Trinity HS (KY)

Current rank: 6th top outfielder

Some project him as being the best prep hitter in this draft.

Projects to be a 15-HR hitter as a leadoff hitter, as a corner outfielder. 55+ runner.

RHP Mike Vasil Virginia

Current rank: 16th top righty

6-5 righty… 3-pitch mix, that includes an upper 90s fastball, a slider, and a change… projected mix rotation pitcher…

Current 2021 (as of 4-12) stat line -

8-starts, 5-2, 2.98, 45.1-IP, 48-K, 5-BB

3.81 -

RHP Irving Carter Home Schooled (FL)

Current rank: 25th top righty

Classic 6-4, 200 body… 18/yrs. Old … a + fastba;; that currently tops out at 95… + slider and, potentially his best pitch may be his spliiter/change… pitches for the same school that has Andrew Painter…

The only question is whether he projects better as a power reliever.

OF Jay Allen John Carroll Catholic HS (FL)

Current rank: 16th top outfielder

6-3/190… This one is going to be tough to sign. Has agreed to attend Florida and also play football. 3-star QB…

Can really hit, an electric runner, and plays a ++ centerfield.

This one is going to need some major overslot money.

RHP Ben Kurdma Blue Valley Southwest (KS)

Current rank: 34th top righty

18/yrs old. 3-pitch mix with heater that tops out at 95… plus change… top prep arm in the midwest.

Committed to LSU and could be a tough sign.

4.111 -

OF Braylon Bishop Texarkana HS (AR)

Current rank: 20th top outfielder

18/yrs old… projects as an above average power hitter… excellent runner but projects to a corner position…

RHP Landon Marceaux LSU

Current rank: 44th top righty

6-0/180… 21/yrs old… allowed zero runs on his first 30 innings pitched this year… fastball up to 93… + slider and chageup…

2021 LSU stat line as of 4-12:

 8-ST, 3-3, 1.89, 0.92, 47.2-IP, 55-K

C Ryan Wrobleski Dalas Baptist

Current rank: 15th top catcher

Transferred to Dallas Baptist after hitting .432 for North Iowa Area JC… soft hands and the ability to frame.

2021 Dallas Baptist stat line, as of 4-13:

  1. I like the over slot guy. Get the best possible talent, those are the guys most likely not just to make the majors but succeed there.

  2. I like the prep outfielder Lile.

Could be future top bat in this game.

    1. You are the expert Mack but A second rounder who is projected as a 15 home run hitter?
What have we been clamoring? Power arms and power bats

To me this is Pitcher then if a C falls to us otherwise next highest upside arm too

  3. As for Jay Allen, the key here is talking him out of playing football. He is only a 3 star rated QB so you might have some success convincing him... and his parents... that a 7 figure bonus check for olaying a safer sport with a higher degree of success might be the right path to go.

  4. Be nice if we can follow the previous regimes success in drafting and signing those highly regarded HS prospects with commitments to colleges.

  5. We have drafted well the past 4-5 years but all those decision makers seem to be gone.

    We'll see.

  6. Mets were successful at it the last 2 seasons. More teams may adopt the same strategy?

    1. Success hasn’t been proven yet...
remember the haul of Ike Davis Reese haven and brad holt
We thought we were set for years

Success will be maximizing those assets... whether on our team or convincing some one else in a trade they are better than they are
