Good morning.
The Mets pick 1.10, 2.46, 3.81, and 4.111 in the 2021 draft,
We always talk about the pick at 1.10, but this is a deep draft, especially for positions like RHP, OF, and SS,
Here are three more names for each round to remember that will most probably still be on the board when the Mets pick, plus a little background on them.
I will update this list throughout the time leading up to the draft,
So, who should still be on the board at:
2.46 - OF/RHP Braden Montgomery
6-2/200 preppy… this switch hitter is a legit 2-way player… runs a 6.9 60… throws 99 from the outfield and hits 93 on the mound.
I currently have Braden coming off the board as the 12 outfielder picked.
C Hunter Goodman
The 6-1/200 Memphis player can hold his own behind the plate, at first, or is a corner outfield position… no one expects this kid to stick behind the plate… above average power but high strikeout rate… current (as of 4-16) stat line: 30-G, 110-AB, leadong the team with a .309-BA, 6- HR, and only 30-K.
I currently have Goodman being picked as the 6th catcher in the nation, but you really have to draft him as a future first baseman or left fielder.
LHP Jonathan Childress
Had an excellent season in 2020: 4-G, 4-starts, 2-0, 1.84, 14.2-IP, 17-K
Definitely not as impressive so far this season:
2021 stat line, as of 4-17… 8-G, 7-ST, 2-4, 4.41, 32.2-IP, 45-K, 12-BB
Hitting 92 after coming off TJS. Still, this was a huge high school talent that someone is going to take a shot at.
3.81 - RHP Tommy Mace
2020 Florida stat line - 4-G, 4-starts, 3-0, 1.67, 0.96, 27-IP, 26-K
2021 stat line (as of 4-16) - 8-G, 7-ST, 4-0, 3.00, 1.02, 45- IP, 60-K
This shows you how deep the RHP talent is in this draft.
I might have Mace a little low here… rising talent… but, right now, I have him coming off the board as the 10th righthander.
LHP Ryan Webb
Webb has converted well from a reliever to a starter… high K/9 percentage… control is coming around… fastball currently topping at 95.
2020 Georgia stat line - 5-appearances, 2-0, 1.20, 1.20,
13-IP, 26-K
2021 (as of 4-17) stat line - 8-G, 8-ST, 2-2, 2.83, 1.02,
41.1-IP, 63-K
I currently have Webb ranked as the 14th top lefty.
OF John Rhodes 6-0/200 Kentucky
2021 stat line, as of 4-17: 31-G, 115-AB, .252, 6-HR, 22-K
Not known for his defensive skills but still is targeted as a corner outfielder at the next level. Needs to finish strong to become an early second day pick.
Right now, I have Rhodes as my 15th outfielder coming off the board.
4.111 - SS Ryan Bliss
+ spray hitter… always in the Auburn lineup
2021 current, as a 4-18, stat line:
30-G, 30-ST, 128-AB, .344, 8-HR, .563-slug%…
Only 15-K
I currently have Bliss ranked as the 14th shortstop in this draft, though his future is probably as a second baseman.
RHP Chase Silseth
Silseth is a JUCO transfer that stepped into the Arizona rotation immediately... 3-pitch mix of fastball (mid-90s), curve and change…
Current Arizona stat line, as of 4-18:
9-G, 9-ST, 5-1, 5.69, 49-IP, 55-K, 16-BB
I have Silseth as the 36th RHP in this draft.
RHP Griff McGarry
Probably be an early future relief pitcher that comes off the board… this guy is a strikeout artist that someone needs to get him to control himself more.
Current 2021 Virginia stat line, as of 4-18:
8-G, 7-ST, 0-4, 6.94, 23.1-IP, 39-K, 28-BB
I have McGarry as the 37th RHP, right behind Silseth.
Mack, did you notice that Keith Law has stated Henry Davis should be the #1 pick? He compares Davis to Buster Posey and saying Posey was #5 and should have been #1. Further, he said Joey Bart was #2 and Davis is better. He continues that Davis only swings and miss 6% of the time and doesn’t strike out. He says that any position player is worth more than a comparable pitcher and he states Leiter and Rocker both project to #2 starters.
ReplyDeleteI don't like Law and I find what he says is consistently wrong.
ReplyDeleteHowever...
Davis currently is a sure first Top 5 pick and the top catcher in the draft. He may even be #3 right now over Lawler.
Saying Rocker and Leiter project out as a 2 starter is insulting. If they aren't projected SP1s, who are in this draft?
Let's hope the other teams listen to Law and Rocker and Leiter are there at #10 for the Mets to Pick.
ReplyDeleteLaw is the Martino of draft dudes.
ReplyDeleteThis list is why you need scouts. You need eyes on these guys to decide which are worth drafting and which are not.
ReplyDeleteMost of the reason that I didn’t want Springer is that I felt Nimmo wasn’t that far below him and Springer wasn’t worth the roster turmoil. But, there was a piece of my mindset that said “don’t lose any draft picks in this draft, unless it was Realmuto”. It’s the quality and depth of this draft that makes me excited about rocking this draft and really filling the system. Also, I don’t was Cecchinis, I was high ceiling, high floor players that everyone runs away from for payroll reasons or like Ginn, they are recovering from injury. I hope Alderson lets Taneous do his stuff.
