Mack - More Weekly Draft Notes

3-30-21 - Shooter Hunt @ShooterHunt

My-oh-my.  OF Daylen Lile  One of the top MLB Draft prospects in the 2021 class looking good…  Louisville recruit

Mack’s spin -

I have Lile as the 53rd pick in this draft.

3-30-21 - Perfect Game Mid Atlantic  @PGMidAtlantic

Good look here at Wake Forest commit Peter Huebeck (2021,MD). Long, lean frame that projects well; Compact delivery; Loose, easy AA; FB worked up to 94 mph early, settled in the 90-92 range; BB flashed + at times; Replicated CH w/ + depth.

JMAC  @JMAC_PG

Huebeck stayed strong through 6 full-innings; Held low-90s throughout, grabbed a 93 in the 6th; Repeats well; Fills it up; Well-tunneled secondaries; Plenty of proj. remaining. Name to monitor as the spring goes on.

Mack’s spin -

I have Huebeck in the 6th-9th round range.

3-30-21 - Prospects Worldwide - Mets Pick at 1.10

10. RHP Sam Bachman | School: Miami (OH) | B / T: R / R | Ht: 6’1 | Wt: 235lbs | Age: 21.10

Bachman very likely brings the best 3-pitch mix to the table in the class. With the FB grading as Double-plus regularly touching mid to upper 90s having touched 101. Comes from that low slot riding up in the zone and showing ability to locate it fairly consistently. The secondaries are equally as impressive. A Slider 85-87 T89 MPH with tight late action, with gyro tendencies and a hard fading Changeup each grading as easy Plus offerings. A strong starters build to go with that 3 pitch mix all that have clear swing and miss potential. Has shown strong improvements with his command/control from struggles he showed during his Freshman year. Similar to Max Scherzer.

Mack’s spin -

First time I have seen anyone pick Bachman for the Mets.

Wouldn’t be the worst pick.

3-30-21 - Prospects Worldwide -

134. RHP Cale Lansville | School: Thunder Ridge HS, CO | Commit: LSU | B / T: R / R | Ht: 6’0 | Wt: 210lbs | Age: 18.4

Lansville isn’t going to wow you at first glance. Not a ton of projection left, not a big frame to get overly excited about, but man can this kid pitch. Simple, easy and repeatable mechanics. A Fastball sitting 91-93 MPH, 2350-2450 RPM, with command to both sides of the plate and ability to miss bats. His best pitch, a Slider 82-84 MPH, 2600 RPM, that grades as Plus with gyro movement and misses bats at a good rate. Rounding out the 4-pitch mix is a Changeup, League-average and a Curveball that he shows feel for but undoubtedly needs a bit of development left.

3-29-21 - Baseball America's Mets pick at 1.10 -

Jackson Jobe

Heritage Hall HS, Oklahoma City, Okla.RHP

Scout pick: Our scout goes with prep righthander Jackson Jobe, who began the year as the No. 30 player in the class, but shot up to No. 18 as the new top prep arm overall thanks to a few loud performances this spring. Jobe’s elite-spin breaking ball is the headliner, but scouts have loved the progress of his changeup this season and some think he could have three future plus offerings. This pick would make Jobe the highest-selected prep righthander since Carter Stewart (No. 8, Braves) in 2018.

3-29-21 - Jesse Litsch @JesseLitsch

2021 Tommy White. White with a shot down the left field line to win the game via 10 run rule walk-off. Kept his hands inside very nicely.

Mack’s spin -

White did not make my top 100 list.

I have him somewhere in the 5th-9th round range.

3-29-21 - Lookout Landing -

The 2021 MLB Draft is shaping up to be a rather odd class in terms of college talent. There looks to be plenty of pretty good college arms available, but it’s a dreadful class in terms of college bats. In turn, big league clubs may elect to reach for higher upside prep talent early in the draft this year than usual. Guys like Bubba Chandler and several other high-profile high schoolers may hear their names called early. Seattle is no stranger to Chandler, but the question will certainly be whether the team feels comfortable to jump on a prep righty in the first round. He’s a unique talent with maybe the biggest upside of any prep arm in the entire class. If Seattle doesn’t jump on him in round one, I feel pretty confident somebody will.

Mack’s spin -

I too think Chandler is a candidate for a pick in the later part of the first round.

3-28-21 - Joe Doyle @JoeDoyleMiLB

You just have to feel for Jud Fabian at this point. He's 0 for 12 this weekend with 10 strikeouts. His K-rate is up to 41.1%.

Mack’s spin -

It will be interesting if this hiccup in the middle of his young career knocks him out of a top 10 pick in this draft.

3-28-21 - Kendall Rogers @KendallRogers

Uh oh. Wes Clarke is getting hot again. Hit a huge HR yesterday, and just hit another one against Florida.

Mack’s spin -

I guess we need to start taking this bat serious.

3-27-21 - Aaron Fitt @aaronfitt

Dominant first inning for @HailStateBB RHP Will Bednar, who fans two on high heat and then gets a popout in a 13-pitch frame. He's 92-95 with explosive life up in the zone (elite spin rate up to 2693 rpm) and also premium spin rate on his tight  83-84 slider (2800-2946 rpm)

Mack’s spin -

I don’t know where to place Bednar right now. He wants in my top 100 when he came out of the pen. We will have to see how he progresses as a starter.

3-27-21 - Joe Doyle @JoeDoyleMiLB

Pretty damn impressive piece of hitting from Boston College OF Sal Frelick. Clemson LHP Keyshawn Askew is a very uncomfortable L-L at-bat and Frelick jumps on a first pitch fastball and seers it up the middle for an RBI. Hell of a player.

Mack’s spin -

More ink on the Frelick fella… he has now worked his way into a top 10 pick in this draft.

3-27-21 - Teddy Cahill @tedcahill

Jack Leiter's night is over after seven hitless innings at Mizzou. The @VandyBoys right-hander has thrown 16 straight hitless innings with 26 strikeouts.

Mack’s spin -

Amazing.

Leiter really doesn’t have to do anything else this season.

I never thought I would say this, but he is the top pitcher in this draft.

  1. Frelick, Clark and Bachman are all interesting.

  2. I love Bachman, but Frelick is too small to pick 1.10.

My nee favorite is C Adrian Del Castillo from Miami.

He no longer is the top catcher in this draft (Henry Davis) and should be around when we pick.
