Can't overstate what it did to the atmosphere to have even 8,000+ fans at Citi Field tonight for that deGrom performance. It was one of those rare ones that really stand out -- the first night like this since Pete Alonso hit No. 53 in 2019.

9 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 15 K, 109 pitches.
He finished with a Game Score of 98. Only Tom Seaver and David Cone have posted higher Game Scores with the Mets (and Rob Gardner in a game that technically didn't count...but that's complicated.)

Commissioner Ford Frick fines
Casey Stengel $500 for appearing in uniform for a beer advertisement, which
shows the Mets manager ready to bunt. Kathy Kersh, who is holding the ball in
the Rheingold ad, will later become better known as Cornelia, one of the
Joker's women in the 1960's Batman television series. |
1965 |
Casey Stengel wins his 3,000th
game as a manager when his Amazin' Mets score three runs in the top of the
ninth inning to beat the Giants at Candlestick Park, 7-6. The 'Old
Perfessor,' who served as the skipper for the Dodgers, Braves, and Yankees,
won more than a third of his games (1,149) during his 12-year tenure with the
Bronx Bombers. |
2012 |
For the first time in major league
history, four different pitchers combine to walk four consecutive batters
when the Marlins hurlers load the bases and then force in a run in a 2-1 loss
against the Mets. Josh Johnson walks Lucas Duda, then Randy Choate issues a
free pass to Justin Turner, followed by Steve Cishek's base-on-balls to Scott
Hairston, and finally, Mike Dunn forces home Josh Thole with the tying run
with the last of the only walks given up by the Miami staff in the Citi Field
contest. |
2015: The Yankees snap the Mets' franchise
record-tying 11-game winning streak with a 6 -1 win. Jacob
deGrom allows three homers, two by Mark Teixeira and the other by
Jacoby Ellsbury to be tagged with the loss. Michael Pineda is the winner.

Also at Mack's Mets:
What a thrill that deGrom did not go up against Max Scherzer again, which he seems to do in every start against the Nats.
ReplyDelete0.31 ERA - wow. Cy Young...likely. MVP - possibly.
Nimmo a long HR and JUST missed another - 4 hits - freaky good.
Jake .545, Nido .100 - understandable why Jake should hit 8th. Jake is best Mets' pitcher as hitter since Mike Hampton, who could easily have been an every day player had he not pitched.
Now, can Stroman keep pace in the Cy Young race with a win today?
Think we will also see Carrasco back as soon as the Mets need a 5th starter.
