Lesko has a good feel for the strike zone and paints it with three main pitches: a fastball that stays in the upper-90s, a sweeping slider that’s his finishing pitch and a sneaky changeup that’s also become a go-to finisher. The only downside about Lesko is that he’s committed to Vanderbilt, so that means if he drops in the draft, he’ll most likely not sign and try to win a title with Vandy, all while improving his draft stock.

Everything comes awfully easy to Lesko on the mound. He’s considered one of the more polished arms in the class featuring an easy, fluid delivery with a four-pitch mix. Lesko’s mechanics are simple and repeatable. It’s effortless velocity without the violence or headwhack that can derail a young pitcher’s career down the road. Lesko really gets into his lower half and shows exquisite efficiency down the bump. It’s a three-quarters, short-arm delivery. The heater has been up to 99, but more comfortably sits 92-95 most nights. Changeup is his best secondary, thrown with plenty of intent featuring fading action into the back foot or righties and darting away from lefties. He has a slider and a curveball, both of which flash above average but are still average offerings on most nights. He has very good command of all four pitches and is more than willing to sequence backwards.

Right now, Lesko is the best prep arm in the 2022 MLB draft class. He is 6-foot-3, 195 pounds who throws a mid-90s fastball from an athletic and repeatable delivery. The righty has consistently performed well on the showcase circuit and has all the tools to be a high-end starter in pro ball.

The 2021 Baseball America HS All-America Teams. Georgia RHP Dylan Lesko is the sole underclassmen to crack these teams, after recently winning the Gatorade National Player of the Year award. Impressive year for him.

Lesko has had a velo spike and was 95-97 before the 2021 season began. His delivery is not excessively violent.

Commitment: Vanderbilt

Key Stats: 174 games, 192 2/3 innings pitched, 313 strikeouts, 0.93 WHIP

Short Story: Arguably the most famous pitcher in the class, or overall prospect, Lesko is one of the most consistent players in the class. He combines high-end stuff with a fastball that reaches 97 mph, and a devastating changeup. Both are above average to plus offerings and he has the command to back it up. The breaking stuff continues to make strides as well. Lesko can also hit and is a very good athlete.

Big Moment: Pick anyone of Lesko’s no-hitters here. There are times when one walks into a Lesko start and gets disappointed when he gives up a hit. That’s how dominant the right-hander has been over the last couple years. You almost take for granted just how good Lesko has been because you get so used to the results.

Bold Prediction: The breaking stuff takes a step forward and we start to argue that Lesko is the most polished high school arm in recent memory.

2022 RHP Dylan Lesko continues to up the ante every time he takes the hill. While the velocity continues to climb, it’s the polish & overall athleticism that stands out. Has one of the better CH in the country too. #VandyBoys

The top HS pitcher in the 2022 Draft class is RHP Dylan Lesko of Buford HS, outside of Atlanta. Here he is via @Matrix_Baseball sitting 95-97 in a preseason scrimmage. He was already the top arm in the class when he sat in the low-90’s; has a plus changeup, command also advanced.

Most polish in the 2022 prep class. Plus command of a true four pitch mix. FB will run up into the mid 90s. CH could be plus with advanced feel.

 11-27-20 - PG -

Lesko is possibly the most dominant pitcher in the history of Perfect Game tournaments, with a career record of 26-3, including 15-0 over the last two years, to go with 300 strikeouts in 186 innings.  He has impeccable command of a 92-94 mph fastball that will touch higher, perhaps the best change up in the class and a solid curveball.

Lesko is in the same boat as Mick Abel, a mechanically advanced prep arm with fantastic scap rotation and hip/shoulder separation – there’s some Jacob deGrom in his delivery. His secondaries are alright for the age, and his slider is likely to tighten up as the draft approaches, but it can be more of a slurve at times. His changeup has fantastic dive and the pitch can play off the fastball well, but his underlying data isn’t fantastic (fringe spin rates & movement). Lesko is still uncommitted, but he’s rumored to be potentially reclassifying into the 2021 class, which would put him between Marcelo Mayer and Alex Binelas in the #6 spot on my board, so the talent is obvious.
