#2  -  Connor Prielipp SP 21.5 6' 1" 195 L L

Prielipp is a lefty with mid-90s heat, and a plus-plus upper-80s slider. He was a little wild as a freshman but the arm strength was relatively new. He's on the Carlos Rodon track.

Hits/Throws: L-L

Hometown: Tomah, Wisconsin

School: Alabama

After dazzling in the COVID-shortened 2020 season, Prielipp enters 2021 as a must-watch arm for the 2022 class. He's added 25 pounds of muscle during quarantine, which has led to FB velocity at 93-96 MPH and has topped out at 97 this fall with command. His slider is firm and sat 88-90 MPH with late break and there's a developing change-up in the mid-80's that has promise. He's likely to be the first arm off the board in 2022.

Starting Pitcher - Connor Prielipp, Alabama

The No. 1 prospect for the 2022 draft, Prielipp broke out in a massive way during the 2020 season where he made four starts and didn’t allow a single earned run while striking out 35 batters over 21 innings with just six walks. He’s got true Friday night ace-level stuff with a physical build and an easy mid-90s fastball. Prielipp dominated hitters in a way freshmen don’t normally do and he’s got a banger of a breaking ball with elite spin rates and biting break to it. He’s likely to give up at least one run this season, but he’ll be leading a talented and hungry Alabama team that could break out in 2021. Look for Prielipp to have a big season as the Crimson Tide have their dude on Fridays who can compete against any other starter in the league.

Throwing a plus—possibly double plus—slider with upwards of 3,150 rpm from the left side is a quick way to grab my heart. Working anywhere from 92-94 (touched 95 three times) as a freshman, Prielipp 3,150 rpm during the college season prior to the COVID-19 shutdown. The absurdity of his freshman year didn’t stop there; the southpaw induced upwards of a 20.0 SwStr% on all three pitches (FB: 22.3%, SL: 25.0%, CH: 23.8%). If end results are your thing, a 47.9 K% should grab everybody’s attention. Mechanically, Prielipp is a carbon copy version of Mike Soroka from the opposite side, with similar body tilt to his right side because of his arm-slot. Prielipp’s timing can be off at times and his stiff front leg is a bit of a turn off. The current data on the fastball is less than ideal, the approach angle is steep (5.35) and the release height is around 6.1. Prielipp works quickly and gets good sinkage in his hips, prolonging his shoulder separation and in turn creating hard-hitting velocity. Part of a deep LHP class, Prielipp already stands out as one of the top follows next year.
