His last name rings a bell, I’m sure. His older brother Josh Jung was drafted by the Rangers in 2018. Jace Jung’s profile is comparable to Josh’s. He’s a thick, absolute masher whose maturity is starting to elevate at the dish. While he is a bat-first prospect, that’s all you really need to see out of this type of player.

Texas Rangers’ 2022 Draft Prospects: INF Jace Jung
Jace Jung‘s older brother is former Texas Tech Red Raider Josh Jung, the Rangers’ No. 1 prospect who was selected with a first round pick in 2019, so Texas knows their way around the Jungs quite well.
Why not add the younger Jung should the opportunity present itself? Jace is plenty talented, demonstrating a plus bat and winning Big-12 Player of the Year, along with a solid glove at second base.
Jace is almost an exact replica of older brother Josh, with many of the same physical traits and playing style. Two Jungs roaming the infield in Arlington would surely be something to see.
Whether he’s there when the Texas Rangers will pick is a legitimate question, but I have to imagine they’ll have Jace Jung high on their board on draft day given how impressed they’ve been with Josh.

Jung is a tremendous hitter who uses a slightly unusual setup from the left side of the plate. He hits for average and power and had a breakout 2021 campaign.
Defensively, scouts are split on Jung’s future defensive position. He is a bat-first player who profiles at second or third base long-term.

Jace, the younger brother to 2018 first round pick Josh Jung, can flat out mash. A power-oriented corner infielder, Jung hit almost .500 as a senior in high school before stepping in and starting immediately for the Red Raiders. He hit 4 home runs in 16 starts for Texas Tech in 2020 and pumped out 21 more as a true sophomore in 2021. His .337 average was among the best in the Big 12. At 6-foot, 205 pounds, Jung is a thick, super strong middle infielder with serious thump at the plate. He draws a ton of walks and limits his strikeouts to healthy levels. A second baseman now, Jung could probably move to third base at the next level. He’s got an average arm and fringy lateral mobility, but he’s quick enough on his feet where scouts think he may be able to handle the hot corner. That said, we’re certainly talking about a bat-first prospect who could eventually end up a plus-plus hitter with plus juice.

The pick: Jace Jung, Texas Tech — East Carolina's Connor Norby is having an absurd season, hitting .425 with 15 doubles, 15 home runs and 15 stolen bases (OK, that's also pretty strange and cool at the same time), but Jung is the no brainer here. Jung was on both our top sluggers and impact freshmen list and with the Red Raiders sitting at 36-13, he'll have a few more games under his belt this May to boost his numbers. Right now, he's hitting .356 with a 1.231 OPS to go along with 10 doubles, 20 home runs and 65 RBIs. He is one of the elite run producers in all of college baseball and gets the nod as top second baseman.
