PRESS RELEASE: Griffin Dazzles, St. Lucie Mets Score Late to Upend Marauders 3-1

 

David Griffin tosses 6.2 innings of one-hit ball 

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (July 24, 2021) – The St. Lucie Mets broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the seventh inning and went on to defeat the Bradenton Marauders 3-1 on Saturday night at Clover Park. 

Anthony Walters and Jaylen Palmer worked back-to-back walks off of Bradenton reliever Ryan Troutman to start the bottom of the seventh. Omar De Los Santos then ripped a RBI single into left field to plate Walters for a 1-0 lead. 

Jose Peroza drilled a two-run double against new reliever Wandi Montout to bring home Palmer and De Los Santos for a 3-0 Mets lead. 

Maikol Escotto began the eighth with a home run off Liam McCall to make it 3-1, but McCall settled down and got three outs to finish the inning. 

Reyson Santos pitched a perfect ninth with two strikeouts to earn his sixth save. 

The star of the night was Mets starter David Griffin, who limited the Marauders to one hit over 6.2 shutout innings. Griffin walked five, struck out eight and threw 100 pitches. 

McCall (2-1) got the win after taking over for Griffin with two outs in the seventh. He retired Yoyner Fajarado on a ground out on a 3-2 pitch with the bases loaded to keep the game 0-0. 

Palmer went 1 for 3 with a single to extend his hitting streak to seven games. 

Bradenton starter Adrian Florencio pitched 5.0 scoreless innings. 

The Mets (38-33) and Marauder (43-28) conclude their six-game series with a Sunday matinee at Clover Park. First pitch is scheduled for 12:10 p.m.
