Press Release: Ponies Fall to Seawolves in Series Finale

 


BINGHAMTON, NY – The Rumble Ponies fell to the Seawolves 9-6 in the final game of a six-game series on Sunday afternoon at Mirabito Stadium. The Seawolves scored in each inning from the third through the sixth earning them a split of the six-game series.

After the Ponies (27-42) took a 4-2 lead after three innings, Erie (40-32) scored two in the fourth and three in the fifth accounting for five unanswered runs giving the Seawolves a 7-4 lead. Seawolves first baseman Spencer Torkelson had three RBI and right fielder Ryley Greene scored three runs.

The Ponies took a 3-1 lead in the second as Nick Conti hit a three-run homer, his first of the season at the AA level. Wagner Lagrange hit his second homer in as many games in the fourth with a solo home run to make it 4-2. It's his third home run of the series and eighth of the season. Carlos Rincon drove a solo homer over the right field wall in the fifth to pull the Ponies to within 7-5. Manny Rodriguez also added a solo homer in the sixth which cut the deficit to 9-6. It was Rodriguez' second homer of the series. Four of his six home runs on the season have been against Erie.

Oscar De La Cruz (1-4) allowed six earned runs and eight hits over five innings taking the loss. Yaya Chentouf (2-1) was awarded the win in relief and Gerson Moreno closed the game out with five strikeouts over two scoreless frames for his seventh save of the season.

Binghamton is off Monday before beginning a six-game series against the Hartford Yard Goats at Dunkin' Donuts Park on Tuesday night. They return home on Tuesday August 3rd to begin a 13-game homestand, starting with seven games against the Portland Sea Dogs.

POSTGAME NOTES: Rincon has gotten a hit in each of his first three games with the Ponies… Rodriguez and Winaker each had multi-hit games.
