Mack - 2022 MLB Draft Prospect Report - SS - Termarr Johnson

Termarr Johnson

SS      5-10     175     Mays H.S.

 Mack’s spin -

An easy early projection as a first round pick.

Right now, I have him coming off the board as the top shortstop in the 2020 draft.

Heading into this summer, (Termarr) Johnson is an early favorite to be the best prep hitter in the 2022 Draft class. Hitting from the left side, the Georgia native generates tons of bat speed and good instincts in the box that make it difficult to sneak any pitch past him. Even though he stands at a listed 5-foot-10 -- which might be generous by an inch or two -- he has little trouble translating his quick hands into over-the-fence power. Johnson clubbed 24 homers -- six of which were 450-plus feet -- over two rounds during the All-Star High School Home Run Derby at Coors Field on July 10. Six days later, he laced a 93 mph fastball several rows into the Tropicana Field right-field seats at the Perfect Game Showcase.

3. Termarr Johnson

Second Base, Mays High School

Despite his size, Johnson has some of the best bat speed in the entire class. He has a chance to be a really special hitter when all is said and done. He's a thunderous hitter with quick, explosive actions at the plate. It's comfortably plus raw power, and he's getting into it in-game already. Johnson covers the zone extremely well and uses the whole field, displaying big opposite-field juice when he lets the ball travel. He's already a muscled up, thick middle infielder, so his ultimate home on the dirt will likely be dictated by what direction his body goes as he's works his way up the develomental ladder. Currently a shortstop, Johnson probably figures to end up at second base or third base long-term. This is an elite-level bat.

Texas Rangers 2022 Draft Prospects: SS Termarr Johnson

The high school shortstops are impressive in the 2022 class. Another standout and potential top selection next summer could be Georgia high schooler Termarr Johnson.

A shortstop with an average build, Johnson is a smooth fielder who has phenomenal bat speed and plus raw power.

Johnson is currently uncommitted to college, though you’d have to think he is being heavily recruited in addition to pursuing a path to the pros right out of high school.

Either way, he’s a projected top-five pick in 2022, and like with Young, the Texas Rangers have a known interest in shortstops. Therefore, expect Johnson’s name to be circulated in rumors surrounding the organization’s draft plans next year.

Termarr Johnson just absolutely nuked this ball into RF. 6 rows deep at least against a 93 MPH heater from Matthew Hoskins. Legitimate pull-side juice in his bat

Termarr Johnson, SS, Mays (Ga.) HS

Johnson, a 5-foot-10, 175-pound infielder, has quick hands at the plate and consistently barrels up pitches from the left side of the plate. He profiles as a top-of-the-order hitter with an ability to hit for some power in the pro ranks. Scouts believe he has the talent to play shortstop, second base and center field at the next level.

Uncommitted

PG Events: 62 events

Key Stats: 85 games, .377-12-102 with a 1.121 OPS

Short Story: Johnson is an instinctual player on both sides of the ball, knowing when to go for it on offense or flick a hit to keep an inning alive. His glove and range have always been good, and the arm has made huge strides. The bat speed stands out and with all the tools he matches it with extreme intensity and will literally do anything to win.

Big Moment: Holding one of the longest and most complete resumes of any player in the ’22 class, the two-time PG Select Festival participant shows up in a big way often. At the 2020 16U WWBA however, Johnson hit .458 with five doubles, a homer, nine RBI, and worked five walks. All while playing lights out defense.

Bold Prediction: Johnson stays the same.  That’s it!  He does what he has always done; produces and wins against the very best competition.

3. Termarr Johnson - 2B

Bio:

Height: 5-9

Weight: 185 lbs

Hits/Throws: L-R

Hometown: Atlanta, Georgia

School: Mays (GA)

Despite his size, Johnson has some of the best bat speed in the entire class. He's a thunderous hitter with quick, explosive actions on the dirt. He'll need to watch the trajectory of the body a bit as he's already a muscled up, thick middle infielder. Currently a shortstop, Johnson figures to end up at second base long term. The whole package could be a plus hitter with above average power with a plus glove. Average runner.

11-27-20 - PG -

Johnson first made his mark as a prospect with his mature and often spectacular defense in the middle infield but he has really gotten stronger in the past two years and if anything his left-handed bat has surpassed his defense.  He has one of the tightest comps in the class with former National League Most Valuable Player Terry Pendleton.
