7-27-21 - Tyler Jennings @TylerJennings24
Dominic Hellman adds an opposite field triple to his name on today's slate. Singled earlier, big power potential that's starting to transition to in-game
Mack’s spin -
Starting to get some early ink on this 6-6 third baseman.
Early favorite of the national scouts in the field.
For now, I have him as my 5th 3Bman on my board.

7. Tristan Smith
Left-Handed Pitcher, Boiling Springs HS
Smith is one of the top lefties in a loaded 2022 prep class. A strong 6-foot-2, 200 pound frame, Smith fits the profile of a future power pitcher with a rather effortless, crossbody delivery with plenty of deception. Smith’s fastball has been clocked as high as 96 MPH, usually sitting in the 90-94 MPH range. It’s an explosive pitch that comes out of a tough angle with high spin rates. His primary secondary is a sweepy slider that has primarily sat in the high-70’s that he commands well. Much like the fastball, his breaking ball has huge spin rates, reaching as high as 3000 RPM. He rounds out his arsenal with a change-up in the low-80’s that he has good feel for. Smith is committed to Clemson.
Mack’s spin -
A 6-2 lefty throwing 95 with a 3000 spin slider. I love it!
Early on, I have him as my 4th southpaw on my 2022 board

Carter Young, SS, Vanderbilt University (Tenn.)
The Detroit Tigers are still in the market for the shortstop of the future. The debate is going to rage on about who will be that anchor of the team’s future. The Tigers may not have that position filled out entirely when the 2022 draft rolls around.
That being said, Carter Young from Vanderbilt University could very well be the first-round shortstop that the Tigers are looking for. Young has spent the last two seasons with the Vandy Boys and is fine-tuning his skills quite well.
Mack’s early spin -
I currently have Young coming off my board as the 5th shortstop.
His star is projected to brightly shine this upcoming season for Vanderbilt.
2021 Vandy Boy stat line - 61-G, 238-AB, ,252, 16-HR, 52-RBI, .559-slug%

Texas Rangers 2022 Draft Prospects: C Kevin Parada
“But the Rangers have Sam Huff and Jonah Heim already.”
While the above is true, sometimes there are can’t-miss talents at positions of strength, and Kevin Parada of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets is one of those.
With rumblings that he could go first overall in 2022 (precedent is there with Adley Rutschman to Baltimore in 2019), Parada may not be there for the Rangers by their selection, but if he is, that is certainly worth considering.
The Yellow Jacket starting backstop brings great defense behind the plate who can already call his own games. He also projects well as a hitter, making him the whole package and potentially the next great Georgia Tech catcher after highly regarded names like Joey Bart, Matt Wieters and Jason Varitek.
Could you imagine a battery of Jack Leiter and Kevin Parada? Holy moly. That’s what we would call must-see TV.
Mack’s spin -
I have moved Perada up to the top catcher in this draft, passing Logan Tanner…. followed by Hayden Dunhurst, Alex Milazzo, and Malcom Moore.
2021 GT stat line - 52-G, 220-AB, team leading .318, 9-HR, 42-RBI, 41-K

Dylan Lesko, RHP, Buford HS (GA)
Lesko has a good feel for the strike zone and paints it with three main pitches: a fastball that stays in the upper-90s, a sweeping slider that’s his finishing pitch and a sneaky changeup that’s also become a go-to finisher. The only downside about Lesko is that he’s committed to Vanderbilt, so that means if he drops in the draft, he’ll most likely not sign and try to win a title with Vandy, all while improving his draft stock.
Mack’s early spin -
Get used to seeing me write about this future superstar.
I currently have him as a top 5 pick and my #2 RHP on my board.
Of course Lesko is committed to Vanderbilt. How did they get to be the go-to school for Top 10 draft pitchers?
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of which, isn't today Deadline Day for Kumar?
People that commit to Vandy usually become Vandy Boys
ReplyDeleteI expect Kumar to sign.
