Mets outfielder Cleon Jones becomes the first player in franchise history to collect a 1,000 hits when he doubles off Jim Rooker in the team's 5-1 victory over the Pirates at Shea Stadium. 1962 - Phils P Art Mahaffey gives up two home runs to Frank Thomas and two more to Marv Throneberry, but negates those with a grand slam of his own in the 3rd inning. Mahaffey tops the Mets, 9 - 4 at New York.

1966 - Ozzie Virgil drives in three runs and Juan Marichal, making his first relief appearance of the year, picks up his 17th win, as the Giants edge the Mets, 5 - 4. The win moves the Giants (63-44) back ahead of the Dodgers and Pirates by a game.

  1. Forget the Mets, other than to repeat: Stroman needs runs. No criticism of him from me.

    Cortes and Vientos on a tear.

    Brian Metoyer back strong. Watch him.

  2. Time to bring Cortes and Vientos to AAA and Mauricio to AA. Nick Meyer also needs to go to AAA so both he and Senger (in AA) can play every day. Mauricio also should be moved to the outfield.

  3. Also, as Ernest Dove said on his Radio show yesterday - Peroza and Montas need to go to Brooklyn.
