MLB.com had a deep
dive on “The real reasons behind Mets' slump at plate” New York has fewest
extra-base hits in the Majors. Mike Petriello
gave 7 reasons why. Here are two of them - #1. It's not strikeouts, not bad luck or
being "clutch" – “You might want to point to the fact that they’re
just the 19th-best offense with runners on, and also 19th-best with runners in
scoring position, and 22nd with the bases loaded, and say that’s all bad, and
it is, but they’re also just a very similar 21st-best with the bases empty.” #4. Three important players are underperforming
- Francisco
Lindor, Dom Smith
and Michael
Conforto.”
Mets.com:
Notes: Díaz, Syndergaard, Nimmo, McNeil. “Mets manager Luis Rojas spoke
with Díaz on Wednesday but did not discuss a time frame for his return…Syndergaard
return still long way off…Nimmo, McNeil taking a break…’Both of those guys are
getting rest and getting the extra day of not starting so they can be fresher
for the next few days,’ Rojas said.”
MLB.com:
1 prospect each team should call up. For the Mets they suggest Khalil
Lee - “Francisco
Álvarez and Brett
Baty are not walking through that door. (At least not yet.) Lee already
has, having appeared in 11 games for New York back in May. It’s been notable
that the organization looked elsewhere for outfield help in the months since,
but Lee still remains the Top 30 prospect most likely to help the big club in
2021. The left-handed hitter owns a .261/.443/.433 line, and his 145 wRC+ is
10th-best among Triple-A players with at least 200 plate appearances. He still
strikes out and puts the ball on the ground too much, but Lee’s ability to take
a walk and help out defensively with a plus arm could be of use to the Mets.”
Box Score: Rochester Red Wings 2 Syracuse Mets 1. Mason Williams RF 2 for 4, HR, 1 run scored, 1 RBI, 1 K; Patrick Mazeika 1B 1 for 4; Khalil Lee CF 3 for 4, 2 doubles; Trevor Williams 6 innings, 1 run – earned, 5 hits, 1 walk, 4 Ks; Tom Windle; (L, 1-4) 2/3 innings, 1 run – earned, 2 hits, 1 walk;

New York Mets purchased Ralph Terry from the Kansas City Athletics on August 6, 1966.
1988 | Jim Gott balks three times in the eighth inning, two of which allow a runner to score from third base. The Pirates relief pitcher's poor form on the mound proves to be the difference in the Mets' 5-3 victory over the Bucs at Three Rivers Stadium. |
2003 | Three weeks after trading for Armando Benitez with the crosstown Mets, the Yankees trade the much maligned reliever to the Mariners. In return, the Bronx Bombers get back 36 year-old Jeff Nelson for his second tour with the team. |
2006 | The Mets continue to make a commitment to their young players, signing 23 year-old David Wright to a $55 million, six-year contract extension. The third baseman joins shortstop Jose Reyes, also 23, who inked a long term deal with the club three days ago worth $23.25 million over the four years of the extension of the Dominican's contract. |

Ugh! Nothing like a total lack of hitting.
ReplyDeleteGreat for Vientos and Eric Orze.
Nice to see Peroza go 2 for 3 and a walk for his new team in Brooklyn. Not so good to see Jaylen Palmer imitate Baez with his 0 for 4, 4 Ks.
Jaylen sure has all the tools to be good. He actually lowered his 2019 K rate of 39.1% to 27.8% in St. Lucie this year after a slow start. Hopefully he will get adjusted soon to High A ball.
ReplyDeleteThere's a downside to those Mets noon-time starts. You can't start drinking heavily enough in time for the start of the game. I guess that's why God created drugs. (Just kidding. LOL.)
