Press Release: Rincon’s 6 RBI Lead Ponies to Split of Doubleheader

 



BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (33-45) split Wednesday's Doubleheader against the Portland Sea Dogs (48-30) at Mirabito Stadium dropping Game One 5-2 and winning Game Two 8-2. 

Game Two: Sea Dogs 2, Rumble Ponies 8 (Box Score)

Carlos Rincon's 6 RBI, all with two out, propelled the Rumble Ponies to an 8-2 win to earn the split of the doubleheader on Wednesday night at Mirabito Stadium. Rincon's grand slam broke the game open in the sixth and his two-run double in the fifth made it 3-0 Binghamton. Brett Baty hit a solo home-run that put the Ponies on the board in the fourth, his third since joining Binghamton. Luis Carpio added an RBI single to cap off a three-run fifth and Jake Mangum finished 3-4 with two runs scored. 

Ponies starting pitcher Dustin Beggs (2-2) earned the win allowing two runs and striking out five over 5.2 innings. Portland starting pitcher Frank German (3-6) took the loss surrendering 4 runs (3 earned) over 4.2 innings.

Game One: Sea Dogs 5, Rumble Ponies 2 (Box Score)

Portland's four-run sixth inning proved too much to overcome as RHP Connor Grey (1-1) suffered his first loss of the year. Grey allowed 5 runs on 7 hits over five innings, with one walk and nine strikeouts. Ponies outfielder Jake Mangum and infielder Luis Carpio went 1-3 with each player hitting a solo home-run. The Sea Dogs went 4-9 with runners in scoring position with all of those hits coming in the sixth. Portland starting pitcher LHP Chris Murphy earned the win in his AA debut allowing a run over 6 innings while walking 1 and striking out 8.

The Rumble Ponies continue their 7-game series with the Sea Dogs on Thursday evening with first pitch at 6:35 PM. 

POSTGAME NOTES: Rincon was 4-7 over the two games of the doubleheader...The Ponies hit four home runs over the two games...it was the second Rumble Ponies grand slam of the year after David Rodriguez hit one on July 22.
