Press Release:

Nogosek, Reid-Foley continue rehab assignments with scoreless outings

JUPITER, Fla. (Sept. 1, 2021) – The St. Lucie Mets survived two late rallies by the Jupiter Hammerheads and won 2-1 on Wednesday night to reclaim the Southeast East Division lead by 0.5 games (Box Score).

The Mets got a run in the first inning when Kevin Kendall scored from third base on wild pitch by Jupiter starter Hunter Perdue.

Omar De Los Santos hit a RBI double down the third base line in the second inning to bring home Brandon McIlwain for a 2-0 lead.

Jupiter scored its only run in the fifth inning against Junior Santos. Davis Bradshaw hit a one-out double, went to third base on a wild pitch and scored on a ground out by Paul McIntosh to make it a 2-1 game.

Santos finished out the rest of the game. He gave up a two-out triple to Victor Mesa, Jr. in the sixth but stranded him by getting Bennett Hostetler on a ground out.

The Hammerheads loaded the bases in the eighth inning but Santos quelled the rally by retiring Hostetler again on a pop out on a 3-2 pitch.

The first two Hammerheads in the ninth singled. Bradshaw then dropped down a bunt but Mets catcher Juan Uriarte quickly threw to third base for a force out. Santos then got McIntosh and Federico Polanco to fly out to end the game.

Santos (5-5) got the win after pitching 5.0 innings and allowing just one run on six hits. He walked one and struck out three.

Stephen Nogosek (shoulder) and Sean Reid-Foley (elbow) both continued their MLB rehab assignments. Nogosek started the game and pitched a scoreless first inning. He gave up a hit and only threw seven pitches.

Reid-Foley pitched the next 1.1 innings. He gave up one hit, no runs, walked one and struck out two. He threw 24 pitches.

Nolan Clenney pitched the following 1.2 innings before Santos took over. With Clenney pitching in the third inning and McIntosh on first base, Polanco hit a double to center field. McIntosh was waved home but Branden Fryman’s relay throw to Uriarte got McIntosh at the plate to keep the Mets up 2-0.

The Mets (54-47) and Hammerheads (54-48) play the third game of their series on Thursday. First pitch at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
