Stats show interesting pictures.
The Mets are 0-81 in losses this year, despite a 4th best in baseball 5.31 ERA in those losses.
The median ERA for teams when they’ve lost is 6.10.
The 3 teams with lower ERAs when losing?
LAD - 4.52, 0-56.
Marlins - 5.15, 0-90. But their payroll is bupkis.
SFG - 5.21, 0-54.
Hopeless, hapless Baltimore is 7.36, 0-105. An ERA 2 runs higher than the Mets in losses.
The above is why Mets’ fans are so frustrated. Theirs is a team that has its pitchers fighting…and it’s batters sleeping…all season long.
Much might have been forgiven had they made the playoffs. But for the 5th year running, no playoffs.
With this franchise, it is the lack of hitting.
As in, they’ve hit .199 with 2.3 runs per game in those 81 games.
Never more so frustrating than in 2021.
That whiff of a stench is emanating from the batter’s box. The stench is overpowering.
Duh!
ReplyDeleteDuh is HUD spelled backwards. Just in case you didn't know.
ReplyDeleteClean house. Build around Lindor.
ReplyDeleteThe whole is less than the sum of its parts.

How to run a proper organization...
ReplyDelete1. Hire a President of Baseball Operations.
2. Let that person determine the GM.
3. Then, let the GM determine the manager.
Lindor had better pick it up next year as I can think of at least 20 or so players I would take over him based on performance and dollars spent. It must have been one hell of lunch with Stevie. Leaders perform and he has alot of work to do to catch up and as I sit here on this glorious Sunday morning after our team is eliminated I wait for my Jets and Giant to hopefully not embarress themselves again today and maybe win one between them. I still remember being 21 in 69' after watching the Mets WS win which of course followed the Jets Super bowl win and thinking ain't this fun and lets do it again real soon. Oh well the naivete of youth has long since passed and I'm getting old so lets get it going teams soon please.
ReplyDeleteThe offense sucks, some reasons:
ReplyDelete1. The windmills in the lineup. Winning teams understand the need to make contact, especially with runners in scoring position. The Mets don’t get that idea. They don’t shorten up. Baez is more of this disease.
2. They play station to station baseball with no hope of manufacturing a run. There’s little speed and no plan. Their third base coach sucks.
3. They live by analytics. The Front Office dictates their vast knowledge of what each pitcher throws to the hitting coach who prepares the players with that night's plan. Then, when a pitcher changes it up, they are unprepared to adjust because they aren’t left alone to “see pitch, hit pitch”. If the hitting coach disagrees with this preparation, he gets fired.
I agree. You need contact guys. And guys with some giddy up on the paths. And, if the analytics are a cause of McNeil/Lindor/Conforto Syndrome, drop the analytics.
ReplyDeleteMack, too logical.
ReplyDeleteEat while, this is crosstown: “ It is a great feeling,” Stanton said. “A lot of emotions going on. I’m just glad I was able to do it, compress everything and be on time for the fastball and something good happened.” “It was incredible,” Nestor Cortes Jr. said.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Gus above. The biggest thing that needs change is the whole philosophy in how the game of baseball is played in Queens. They really don't need all new players, they need a new approach for the ones they have.
ReplyDeleteDid anybody see that Tom Verducci clip the other day on the safety squeeze bunt play? Man, I'd like to see that a time or two.
