Pick the organization that you deem successful and grab a candidate from there. We should have taken Chaim Bloom from Tampa previously and he is running the Red sox now. But they have not lost a beat. Who do they have there? they seem to develop internally better than any organization. I would also look at the Cardinals, braves, Cleveland. We talk about Billy Beane but who is his right hand man? He is someone we should talk about.
If a POBO can be successful in a small market why is that not transferable here?
Neander was just re-upped in Tampa with a promotion, so he is out. Forst is the man behind Beane in Oakland. Stuff I've been reading indicates he is the one doing all the work behind Beane these days. I doubt Oakland let's him walk. They would be more likely to let Beane walk and promote Forst.
Josh Byrnes might be my choice too. How about a reunion with Paul DePodesta? Another Sandy protege who could be brought back.
Joe Torre. Yeah, he'll be 82 next year, but he is a former player and manager of the Mets. Besides that orange & blue blood, no one knows a baseball operation like Joe. He also understands the MLB office and what they think of the owners and the other POBOs. He could get the Mets front office better organized, then lure and train his successor.
Josh Byrnes would be a good choice. He worked with Epstein in Boston and is a key to current Dodgers success,

If George Burns is unavailable, Josh Byrnes would be great :)

ReplyDeleteTorre isn’t a good suggestion. They need to stay with the times, not go backwards 25 years.
ReplyDeleteCharles, I agree. Let's not go backwards. We need to try to land someone as manager who isn't likely to be the next 1 to 2 year-and-out manager.
