Tom Brennan - A Brief Tale of Two Pete Alonsos

Pete in his pre-Queens Minors Days

I don't want to be lengthy here.

Pete Alonso, thru September 21, has had two seasons....

1) away games, and

2) home games, where home field advantages should await any bona fide slugger.

Big Pete on the road?

70+ games, 25 HRs, 60 RBIs, .291.

The good Pete.

Double that, you get 140 games, 48 HRs, 116 RBIs.  YES!

At home?

71 games, 10 HRs, 30 RBIs, .230.

The bad Pete.

(Right on cue, the "Bad Pete" hits 2 HRs against a weak Miami pitching line up last night, which only impacts this story ever so slightly, as one game does not a season make).

Double that home pace, and you get - I dunno - 142 games of Pete's predecessor, Lucas Duda, in a bad year. (BTW, the current President of Poland is named Duda).

I think, if management is smart, they will want to ask Pete, a man who is not bashful about sharing his views, why he has hit SO MUCH BETTER on the road than at home.

If you ask me?

I think the fences ought to be brought in 5-7 feet all around, and 8 feet in CF, to give Pete a welcoming park to slug in.  I'll bet that alone boosts that 10 HR home field total to 20, based on balls he has hit this season.

I think that HR boost would make Pete feel invincible, and guys who think they're invincible tend to do even better.

He may well agree with that - or might not.

Maybe there are 10 other reasons he would offer instead.

Management should ask Pete why.  Period.

If they want to win, of course.

I sure want them to win.  So do you.

You'd think they'd also want to win enough to ask him.  And Lindor.  And others who will be staying and playing in 2022 and beyond.

Sometimes, though, I wonder.

  2. I have another article coming that highlights a staggering Citifield fact that Cohen should know of, and address, as well, Mack. Hopefully his analysts have brought it to his attention and discussions about it are taking place.

  4. You guys realize the Mets at home were 20 games over .500. The problem isn’t Citifield.
