B-Mets Game Recap - Fourth Inning the Difference as Ponies Fall to Yard Goats

HARTFORD, CT – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (7-17) fell to the Hartford Yard Goats 4-0 on Friday night at Dunkin’ Donuts Park, taking three of the first four games in the series.

The decisive inning in this game was the fourth. In the top half of the inning, Luke Ritter and Brett Baty began the frame with singles off Hartford RHP Karl Kauffmann (2-1). The next batter Ronny Mauricio hit a rocket at shortstop Ezequiel Tovar who was able to make the catch and step on second base for the unassisted double play. With Baty on first with two out, Hayden Senger doubled down the left field line, but Baty was thrown out at home trying to score, ending the inning.

In the bottom half of the fourth, Kyle Datres began the frame with a single and Michael Toglia walked. The next batter Willie MacIver belted a three-run homer to left center off Binghamton starter Alec Kisena (1-2) that put Hartford (14-11) up 3-0. It was MacIver’s eighth homer of the year.

Kisena would go on to retire the final nine hitters he faced as he allowed four hits and three runs over six innings. Kauffmann pitched eight innings allowing five hits with no walks and nine strikeouts.

The two teams continue their series on Saturday night with first pitch at 6:05 PM and the pregame show getting underway at 5:50 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF and 92.1 FM.

Postgame Notes: Both Jake Mangum and Zach Ashford singled to extend their hitting streaks to six games…Binghamton has dropped three games in a row.

  1. Ponies are playing like phony baloney. How can a team with Alvarez, Baty and Mauricio be 7-17, I ask myself?

    Consider me puzzled.
