Tom Brennan and Mack Ade - - Tom 'n Mack Recap: Inaugural Edition

TOM AND MACK RECAP

This recently retired writer was asked by the site's founder and writer to team up on pumping out a prior day's action recap in collaboration with the site's founder and writer.

I thought I'd give it a shot - after all, if Mack was paying you 10 years, $341 million to do it, you'd write, too.

At least SOMEONE in this town deserves 10/$341MM.

Of course, Mack wrote those terms on a napkin, which was then used after a messy dinner and tossed out.  If you want to examine the contract, I can give you the location of the landfill where it has been filed. Anyway, the contract pays off completely at the end of the 10 years, so I have not yet spent it all in one place.

Those are the terms, which typically go undisclosed.

Also, Scott Boras was not involved in the deal.  He was too busy helping Michael Conforto do shoulder exercises.

We thought about calling it Mack and Cheese, but decided against it.

"Well, they call it Stormy Monday...." starts the old blues tune.

Big storm - no Monday night game.  No retractable roof, you see.

We can only hope that on Ernie Banks "Let's Play Two" Tuesday, when the Mets play a single admission doubleheader in beautiful weather conditions, the second line of that song will not be prophetic:

"Tuesday's just as Ba-ad, Yeah-ah."

Well, since the DH is against the 19-15 St Louis Cardinals, it will be against a tough opponent.

Pete Alonso and Starling Marte, I have been told, plan on doing no more fishing for the rest of the season. They both fished on Sunday and can back to shore without catching a W.

Minors-wise, Monday is a day off, but a full slate of 4 games goes today.

On a dearly departed note, Noah Syndergaard, the man many a fan wished we'd kept, despite his one inning per season average in 2020 and 2021, gave up 6 runs in 2/3 of an inning yesterday.  In 30 innings, he has fanned just 22.

Meanwhile, a guy not named Edwin Diaz or Josh Hader, in 2021 and 2022, has tossed 76 innings, gone 12-4, fanned 117, and allowed just 46 hits.  Paul Sewald is that ex-Mets guy.  Beast.

MACK WEIGHS IN:

1. Gave my daily thoughts today on Tom's Jake post. Here they are:

a. Make plans for Jake not to play this season. Anything else would be a bonus.

b. I will gladly take a split in this series.

c. Play Patrick.

d. Keep Holderman.

e. Bring back Nogo.

2. The napkin was used after eating ribs.

3. Need the bats to carry the arms for awhile.

4. What would we be happy with from Williams today? I'd take 2 runs in 5 innings.

5. Here is where we will miss Nogosek's ability to stretch innings.

6.Tom tried to hold out for a Prius. We settled on a rusty Schwinn.

  2. Great to see you guys teaming up!
If only the Mets could team up with Hader. Last I checked he had a 0.050 batting average against.
I was praying for rain yesterday so we wouldn't have to burn a lot of bullpen arms going into the St Louis series. Be careful what you wish for - now we have two games today with the same (or worse) effect on the bullpen. I hope Holderman is as good as he looked last time out.

  3. Mack, I am holding out for a Studebaker. No supply chain issues.

  4. Paul, my brother begged over the past few years for us to pry Hader away from the Brewers. He is a Beast above all Beasts. Although Edwin ain't bad at all, in my books.

Only Bartolo Colon could hit Hader, because he has proven that he could hit what he couldn't see.

Holderman did look good - well wishes for him going forward. I just wonder if there are other pitchers who could be tweaked easily into another 4-5 MPH in the Mets' minors, like he was.

Apparently, when Colin got the call, he scooped up his stuff from the park in Pa they were playing at and took an Uber to Citifield. Glad the traffic cooperated.

    1. Both Holderman and Nogosek should be on this team.
