The Mack Report - Thursday, June 30th

Regarding last night...

Two hits.

I don't care how much you yearn for either Jake or Max to be back, you are never going to see a better start than the one Taijuan Walker put up last night.

Two hits.

I have been telling you all season how proud I am regarding the gritty job done by the rotation that has seemed to be put together by gum and spit.

Two hits.

Don't look back and look and see how quickly a car or truck is heading up your ass. No, just hit the gas pedal or get the hell out of the way.

Two hits.

And please don't question either Adam Ottavino or Drew Smith showing you their human side. Remember, neither would have been in their game if the Mets had a 5-6 run lead at that point.

Two hits.

  1. Interesting… especially Porter over Lesko. No Crawford?

The Walker start was nice, but when we talk starting pitching, we are including Corrasco’s problems and Bassitt’s inconsistency. Peterson has been better lately but the Mets have faced very good starting pit hing this month and not stepped up. In fact, they've stepped down most of the time.

On DeGrom taking his time, do I want this guy taking up 15% of my payroll? Hlw many innings is he good for in a year?

Mets bats are mostly cold. Only Nimmo, Marte, and Alonso are doing anything these days. I’m not mad at Lindor or Cahna, who have done plenty, but having DH’s that can’t hit and a third baseman that’s still trying to get out of the mud is terrible.

    2. I'm very disappointed at the complete loss.of timing hitting.lately.

Good news is weak schedule starts Friday.

  2. I'm going to ask the question if Jake is worth a QO next season.

  3. I want to see Smith sent down, and Blankenhorn called up. I'd ride the catching duo thru the Braves series. If the hitting does not pick up from the .195, it is Alvarez time.

I baked Dom but his hitting since mid-July last year is horrific.

I'd not call up Vientos for JDD - yet. But if Vientos gets hot, I would entertain it.

The success of this team this year was driven by top-to-bottom offense. The bottom 3 spots have dried up. Time to make changes.

  4. Gus, I guess the Mets fervently hope he will turn into Verlander.

  5. Mack part of the Mets' hitting problem is Houston's amazing 2.98 team ERA

  6. What annoys me is abandoning the small game. Nimmo leads off with 2b and no attempt to move him over. Getting a run there changes the complexity of the game.
