BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Mets, are proud to announce that catcher Francisco Álvarez has been promoted to Triple-A Syracuse.
Álvarez, the Mets number one prospect and sixth ranked prospect in Major League Baseball as listed by MLB.com, has been with Binghamton since the beginning of the year. The 20-year-old Venezuelan native is having an outstanding season, currently hitting .277 with 18 home runs and 47 RBI in 67 games. In the month of June, Álvarez exploded for 10 home runs and drove in 24 runs.
Álvarez is currently in the top five in the Eastern League in home runs (18) and slugging percentage (.553), ranks sixth in OPS (.921), and is second in extra base hits (34). Álvarez also wowed fans by hitting home runs in four of his first six games as a member of the Rumble Ponies.
Álvarez signed with the Mets as an International Free Agent on July 2, 2018.
