Tom Brennan - Mets Recap

JD DAVIS IN AN ERNEST DOVE PIC FROM 2021

(Mack is off today)

It almost all went well last night in Metsville.

Braves loss, resulting in astonishment. BRAVES…LOSE???

Mets, meanwhile, win 10-0, lead back to 3.5 games, behind stellar efforts from 3 season-long strugglers.

Trent Williams with a Greg Maddox pitching line for the win (7 innings of 2 hit shutout ball). Moves to 2-5 with the W.

And 2 bottom-of-the-order dudes hit like Ruth and Gehrig.

James McCann? 3 RBIs, jumping his season RBI total to 11.

JD Davis? A grand slam and 5 RBIs, jumping his season total to 19.

Those latter two guys thru half a season had 22 RBIs, and jump that up by 35% in a single game!

Baseball is an unusual game.

MINORS

A perfect night - almost.

Syracuse won 3-2.

Nice clean 2K 9th by closer Bryce Montes de Oca. Alvarez sac fly.

Brooklyn won 3-2.

The 2 K boys, Newton and Palmer, combined for 1 for 6 and 5 Ks, and eclipsed the combined 200 K mark. I harp on that for a reason…

Carton on WFAN was ranting about Joey Gallo being the worst Yankee hitter ever…so I look Gallo up. This year and last, a lot of homers, about .180, and striking out like mad. Our K boys are hitting just as bad as Gallo in High A ball, but with less power. HAVE TO MAKE MORE CONTACT, whatever it takes, fellas.

Struck baseballs can drop in, swung-and-missed baseballs cannot. Swing at EVERYTHING in the strike zone. My amateur advice?  If you make contact on 1/3 of your swings, you will fan less. Walk less too, perhaps, but forget walks, make contact.

St Lucie won 3-2.

Raul Beracierta (.276) cracked his 6th tater.

Three 3-2 wins.

Unusual.

Binghamton won 1-0…well, that is,if you only count the last 6 innings. You see, they trailed after 3 innings, 16-0, as 3 Bingo pitchers’ ERAs inflated faster than gas prices.

Last 3 relievers, including Mack’s guy Grant Hartwig, threw 6 scoreless and fanned 6.

Bottom 3 hitters in Bingo’s order had 5 hits and 2 walks, while the top 6 in the line up did virtually nothing.

Unusual game.

An unusual day all around. That’s why we love baseball.

  1. Binghamton gave up 11 runs in the first inning! LOL, well they got that over with soon.

Nice win last night. Made for an easy night’s sleep!

I saw that Wilmer Flores has a younger brother that is the #1 prospect pitcher in the Tigers system. The kid’s name? Wilmer Flores… ok…

  2. I was at that Binghamton game. The Sea Dogs were just teeing off on Bing pitching like they knew every pitch that was coming. Even the balls that didn't go over the fence were very hard hit. This was against multiple pitchers so you can't even surmise that one guy was tipping his pitches. Hartwig was good, but the pitcher of the night was infielder Cody Bohanek, who after starting at shortstop for a resting Ronny Mauricio, stepped in to pitch a 1-2-3 ninth inning. The radar gun wasn't working, but I don't think he topped 60mph on any pitch.

Was happy to come home to the NYM's 10-0 score and see that some of the guys who are trying very hard but getting no results had a chance to shine.

  3. George Foreman likes two brothers wit the same name.

  4. Paul, maybe they were stealing signs. If not, they can steal those pitchers.

Maybe it was just the absence of Alvarez and Mauricio that got them excited.

Cody Bo…I am sue as a SS he can throw up in the 80s, but why ruin your arm in a meaningless inning.

  5. Tom, I don’t know if it was Foreman but I do recall that Jose Cruz has like eight sons named Jose…

  6. What a bizarre night with TW hurling a beauty and JD and McCan't hitting bombs just to prove the theory "on any given night" and why we all love the game. Well I guess we'll all have a better sense of things by next Wed. night.

  7. I didn't know that Hartwig was "Mack's guy", but I've been been impressed by his advance as he rapidly climbs the ladder.

JD and Davis are starting to screw up the plans, aren't they? If they keep up their recent hitting, are we still looking to trade for a DH? If we are, I hear that Gallo may be available for a few barrels of his family's wine.😁

  8. Trevor, not Trent, Williams.

Bill showing off his Gallo’s humor. Like it.

  10. OK do you like this trade idea from the Athletic. Trey Mancini for Dominic Hamel and Cal Ziegler?

  11. Gary, no, no, no. Trade two future MLB starters? No.
