Tom Brennan - JUDGE as a Free Agent? And Arizona Mets Performances

Well, big free agents want the Brinks truck, but can they deliver when it counts?

ALL RISE!

Aaron Judge had a monster year. 62 HRs, and whatnot.

Yanks won 99, but with Darin Ruf in his place, the Yanks might have won 69.

ALL GROAN!

Aaron Judge thru Sunday night’s playoff loss, though, was just 5 for 36 with 2 walks and 15 Ks in the playoffs.  Somewhere, Dave Kingman is giggling.

Career-wise, he is hitting .211/.310/.462 in the playoffs in 198 PAs, with just 25 RBIs.

The Mets need guys to allow them to pull off late playoffs exploits.

Successful playoff guys. Not massive masquerading mannequins.

If I judge this correctly, Judge is not the solution.

I sometimes like movie sequels.

“Mr. May” starred Dave Winfield.

“Mr. May II” is starring a slightly-bigger-than-Dave Aaron Judge.

ALL PASS!

P.S.

Winfield is in the Hall with 64 career WAR. Our guy, Keith Hernandez, had 60 WAR, just 4 fewer in a significantly shorter career, but got stiffed.

ARIZONA FALL PERFORMANCES

Kevin Kendall has been on base 24 times in 54 PAs….444.

Simply outstanding for a guy coming into the AFL with less than 40 pro games under his belt. Kendall has far fewer pro games than the other 3 Mets hitting representatives in the AFL.

The other 3 hitters?

Brandon McIlwain and Stanley Consuegra are hitting around .200, but Stan’s 3 hits in 16 at bats included a promising 2 doubles and a HR.

Luke Ritter is just 2 for 29, worst in the entire AFL.  He has 267 minor league games and 222 college games under his belt.  He has fanned 309 times in 1,088 minor league PAs and is hitting a career .223.  I'm not sure he has what it takes.  But he seems determined to press on.

Pitching?

Grant Hartwig, Josh Walker and Mike Vasil happily all pitching much better of late.

Franklin Sanchez hasn’t pitched much, 4 runs in 3 innings, and Christian Scott has really struggled…9.1 IP, 21 hits, 14 runs.  Ouch.

Vasil had an excellent recent 4 inning outing (no runs, 5 Ks).  I read he is happy that they have been able to help him tap into added velocity.  If he is happy, so am I.

So…to recap...one thumb way up, 3 pitching thumbs up so far, and 5 AFL guys struggling.

  1. October? It’s more like Choketober. Cole a multi million dollar ace in an almost:must win game can only go 5innings! Judge is a bum when the playoffs count even at home. Choke, choke, choke…

  2. Cole 5 innings makes one wonder what has happened to baseball, once again. And Judge went home and threw his whiffle ball bat in the garbage.

  3. Tom,
Keeping in mind we have numerous free agents to account for,are you ready to post the minor league prospects you want to add to the 40 man roster prior to the December rule 5 draft?

  4. D J, I will ponder that one. The trick, of course will be how many spots will be open. But I will see if I can come up with a descending list.

  5. Thanks for updating the AZ results. Will you also be keeping us updated on the Mets Caribbean players?

There used to be a site which grouped Caribbean players by ML Organizations, but I can't find it any more.

  6. Judge = No thanks in my book.

I did not understand Ritter to the AFL when the rosters were announced. My perception is that he is a streaky level A-AA hitter that might top out as a utility filler for Syracuse. Why not send Young or Ramirez in that slot?
