Mack’s writers reveal their Christmas wishes

Like young children reacting with gleeful awe at the presents under a Christmas tree, Mets fans have been feeling giddy as we watch the spending spree unfold on the building of the NEW Mets.  The owner and the front office have given us the greatest gift of depth.  We have a team filled with players who have the skills to make this team succeed.  We have a coaching staff that was very successful last year in guiding our troops to 101 wins.

So what more could we want?  Of course we all want a World Series Championship for the New York Mets, but that is a wish that doesn’t just show up under your tree.  It has to be earned.  So what things do you want to see that will help set up a team to push through the regular season, through the playoffs, and spray some Champagne on the trophy?  That question went out to the writers of Mack’s Mets, and here are the answers I got:

A Christmas wish from Mike Steffanos: Contract extensions for Pete Alonso and Jeff McNeil.  And I hope Darin Ruf has a great year … in Korea.

A Christmas wish from John Coppinger: My wish for the Mets in 2023 is for the discourse surrounding the team to match the effort that the club has made to make it a winner.  May people gain some perspective on where we have been compared to where we are.

A Christmas wish from David Jacks: My wish for the Mets has come true. They have an owner who will do the bullying, who will never be out on any free agent, who will do whatever it takes to win. It doesn't promise the Mets a championship, which Mets fans so desperately want, but it gives them a real chance. It gives Mets fans hope and hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things and no good thing ever dies. That's that's all I can ask for.

A Christmas wish from PIITBLOG by JD: A Pete Alonso extension and the letter “C” emblazoned on his chest.

A Christmas wish from Paul Articulates: That Edwin Diaz develops a sick change-up.  He is already the league’s most dominant closer, but since he primarily uses two pitches – a high fastball that runs in and a low slider that breaks away to righties.  Batters can guess what is coming and have a 50% chance of being right.  If Diaz adds a change to his repertoire, guessing is out.  Batters may as well just sit down.

A Christmas wish from Remember 1969: I wish for Mack to maintain his health so he can continue to write.  His work to expose the talents of the many HS and College prospects is a blessing to all of the readers, to the Mets scouting staff, and to the prospects themselves.

A Christmas wish from Tom:  The Mets lead 10-0 in the top of the 9th of game 4 of the World Series, with the Mets up 3 games to none, and Bryce Montes de Oca fans the side. Why him?  In the huge ensuing Mets player celebration pile up, he’s too big and strong to get crushed. Steve Cohen gets the first of many rings.

A Christmas wish from Mack: The Mets are (minus the Correa signing) basically returning the same team that had 101 wins last season, but this time they will go at it with an improved rotation.  My wish is for something this team just can't seem to find:  Good health.  I truly believe the lack of making the playoffs last season was due to the Marte injury. He was so, and still is, valuable to this team. So... my wish is to keep this team on the field.

A Christmas wish from the entire Mack’s Mets writing staff: We wish good health and happiness to all those who read our blog every day.  We appreciate your loyalty and hope to continue providing you with information and interesting opinions on all things Mets for the coming year.  Let’s Go Mets!

  1. In the better late than never category, Reese Kaplan would advocate for access to the Mets official media feed not just as a series of press releases, but with invitations to press events.
