Here we are, 3 weeks from the start of ST, and the Mets have 2 GAPING holes in the announcing teams.
On the TV side, Keith is still unsigned, and on the radio side, Howie is without a partner.
I fully expect Keith to come to terms and fill the gap in the current G_R. I'd be very surprised if it doesn't happen, but the possibility exists.
On the radio side, both Randazzo and Eisenberg have signed deals out West.
I'd like to see a discussion of what may lie ahead, especially with Howie having undisclosed health issues that curtail his schedule and even his future.
How do those in the MM group feel the Mets should move for this season and beyond? I see 4 concepts:
1) Is it time for a woman in the booth, a better version than Suzyn Waldman?
2) Should a former Mets player, such as Vliff Floyd, Anthony Recker, Jerry Blevins, Todd Zeile, Al Leiter, or even (however unlikely) David Wright, be hired?
3) Or should they use the draft day cliche, and simply go for "best available", with no previous Mets connection?
4) Maybe it's time to "promote from within", and hire someone currently doing the games of one of our Minor League teams.
I am not at all familiar with the 4th group above, but given Howie's health, there is jusrification for going to youth. Someone for Howie to train, groom and evaluate as a possible successor.
Let's discuss.
I guess we are getting closer I ser on the radio side with that Cyclones guy.
ReplyDeleteThe Keith issue is Jeff busting Steve's chops. He doesn't want to invest any more money into SNY
Yes, while not yet formally announced ("pending physical"? 😅), the Mets are choosing Keith Raad, a young announcer who call Brooklyn Cyclones games this year, to be Howie's partner.
ReplyDeleteHowever, especially with Howie's health problems, IMO a third voice is needed, even if only part-time.
No way Suzy should be hired. She is a a Yankee not a Met. Hire a woman roving reporter if you want a woman. I like Alanna Rizzo.
ReplyDeleteWe will miss Wayne Randazzo - he was great, and his team with Howie made listening to games on the radio fun. When ESPN would take a Mets game away from SNY, I would watch ESPN with the volume off and hear Howie/Wayne make the call on the radio. Much better, even with the lag.
ReplyDeleteNever heard a broadcast by Keith Raad, but looking forward to a new young voice coming up.
Don't lose Keith!! He adds much flavor and fun to the SNY broadcast.
Uncle Steve made over 2 Billion last year so Mack and your elite writers group are due a BIG raise so any update's on that? Didn't know the SNY thing but dam are we ever going to get rid of that clown? I guess that's why some of the extra show's that were on prior to the pandemic didn't come back.

ReplyDeleteAm currently negotiating with Steve, but as the President's press secretary says, " I refer this to legal council".
I agree love her or hate her Suzi is a Yank.
ReplyDeleteI think each Mack’s Mets writer should get to do a cameo play by play with Howie Rose. We promise to be well behaved.
ReplyDeleteActually, I really liked her when she was the beat reporter for Yankees coverage on WFAN, and wished she'd switch to the Mets.
ReplyDeleteBut once she switched roles to being Sterling's ass-kisser on the Yankee games, she found the bottom level of the airwaves.
re: Gaping Announcer Holes
ReplyDeleteAlmost sounds somewhat profane. But here goes anyway. My choice to be "next in lin" would be David Wright. I just do not know if he would be interested because he has a young family and it would mean a lot of travelling for him. David always exhibited a terrific understanding of this game, and the personality and knowledge to match. His opinions would be appreciated and respected by the fans as well.
After that?
Maybe Lastings Milledge
This 2022 Off Season editions.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, the NY Mets Owner, GM, Assistant GM, and Manager have combined their efforts to bring together what looks to me like possibly the very best team of players ever assembled as New York Mets. They have flawlessly addressed and upgraded each and every area and position of their roster. But one.
Think home game, Citi Field, bright and sunny day. The Mets are batting in the ninth inning with the bases loaded. There are two outs. They won the first game of this doubleheader, and now they want that perfect two game day.
So what do you do? Who do the Mets put up to bat in this situation that could easily clinch this second game?
A: Simple. The next Edward "Eddie" Carl Gaedel, that's who! It's a no-brainer really. Cha-ching! Put the game in the books. Mark it as a victory!
I am on this for right now. So far, the great grandson of one of the Wizard of Oz "Lollipop Kids" just wants to know how much money is in it for him, and does he get to keep the new tailored Mets uniform?
B-i-n-g-o! Game won. (Smoooooooooooooth)
Do not type in GAPING HOLES on Google pics page
ReplyDelete????
DeleteI've yet to hear a female sports announcer worth listening to. Better to hire them in administrative roles
ReplyDeleteMaybe you haven't heard them, but there have been several in the past hosting shows on WFAN. But I don't remember their names.
