38. Barrett Kent, RHP, Pottsboro HS (TX) – A good bodied Texan righty with a loose right arm, Kent has the makings of a future workhorse starter. There is some late effort in the finish that sees him fall to the first base side a little and there is a mild elbow bend at times, but the delivery is pretty clean otherwise. The fastball has late tail sitting 91-93 but has been up to 96. He has a cutting slider that is a quality second pitch, and a developing change and curve as well. There isn’t a ton of ceiling for Kent, but there is a rather high floor for a prep arm, so he is never going to be a game change, but could easily be a future big league contributor.

Kent is exactly "what they look like." He's got the prototype frame with effortless athleticism and a buttery delivery that already showcases very real present stuff. Kent has been up to 96, but sits 92-93 on longer outings. Kent throws a slider and a changeup as well, though he loses the release point on both at times. Still, we're talking about definitive starter traits here and tremendous upside coming from premier clay.

Kent has always been one of the top arms in the state for ‘23 class, but this summer he elevated himself into the top 3 in the state overall.  Kent is an athletic mover down the mound, who produces low effort velocity that touched 95 at Area Code. 

The Rangers didn’t slow down in that game, rolling right to RHP Barrett Kent (Pottsboro HS, TX), who also struck out five in three innings while hitting one batter. He stands at 6-foot-4, 200 pounds and ranged from 90-95 with an effortless delivery. His secondary varied a bit, as he threw a slider at 80-81 with a little cut, but then found more downward break at 84. - Shooter Hunt
