Brayden Taylor

2021 TCU stats - 59-G, 210-AB, .314, 13-HR
1-2-23 - Joe Doyle @JoeDoyleMiLB
TCU shortstop Brayden Taylor is soaring up draft boards. A big lefty stick with true hitter-ish tendencies, Taylor and I discuss exit velocities, growing up in Utah, idolizing Derek Jeter and modeling some of his game off Brandon Crawford.
12-15-22 - 2023 MLB Mock Draft:
10. Brayden Taylor, SS, TCU
Taylor is a solid left-handed bat who can play both middle infield positions. He could even play third base if needed. He also rips line drives like it's his day job because it's his day job.

11. Los Angeles Angels: Brayden Taylor, 3B, TCU
Perry Minasian began his tenure by loading up on pitching but he goes for another college bat here. Taylor is a left-handed hitting third sacker who projects for power and on base ability.

15. Chicago White Sox: Brayden Taylor, IF, TCU
Taylor checks a lot of boxes. He’s not going to mash the ball over the fence a lot, but he makes constant contact and has shown flashes that he can hit to all fields. He’s also a decorated prospect, garnering honors 2021 Big 12 Freshman of the Year, 2021 1st-team D1 Baseball Freshman All-American, 2021 1st-team Perfect Game Freshman All-American, 2022 2nd-team All-Big 12, 2022 USA baseball Collegiate National team member among many more.

12. Arizona Diamondbacks
Brayden Taylor, Infield, TCU
The Diamondbacks are close to dropkicking open a competitive window that the Arizona faithful should be awfully excited about. They’ve got prospects or full-time fixtures at several positions, so the team has the luxury of grabbing the best player that fits their models. Taylor checks a lot of boxes. He makes a ton of contact and flashes average power with the versatility to play anywhere on the field. Taylor is one of the most decorated players in college baseball at handling high velocity. He could move quick and see Chase Field by 2025.

Brayden Taylor, 3B, TCU Baseball
Taylor had one of the best eyes I saw of any player this summer. Patient hitter who rarely expands the zone. 19.1% walk rate compared to 15.8% strikeout rate. Consistent bat with TCU. A career .319/.450/.574 hitter with 25 HRs, 25 2Bs. https://t.co/n6kWFcIPtf

12. Arizona Diamondbacks | Brayden Taylor, SS, TCU
The DBacks already have the shortstop of the future in Jordan Lawlar, but the value on Taylor at this pick is too high to ignore. He played third base in 2022 and did so over the summer as well, though with shortstop athleticism and tools, giving him serious defensive upside at the hot corner while having seen time at second base as well. He has high-level contact skills along with good walk numbers and overall selection at the plate, and is a well-rounded hitter with left-handed power as well. -BS

8. Brayden Taylor, 3B/SS, TCU – Taylor is probably better suited for third rather than short long term, so there is a little more emphasis on the bat than a true SS prospect, but that bat will play. His front foot is off the ground a long time, but he doesn’t get caught off balance as much as you might think and has excellent zone recognition. He hit 12 and 13 home runs in his first two seasons respectively and there is at least average power potential, if not more, in his future. The batting average of just .263 in 37 games in the Cape Cod League over the past two seasons does leave some concern, but he hit three home runs in 11 games this past summer, so that power does play with the wood bat.

9. Brayden Taylor
Shortstop, TCU
TCU's Brayden Taylor handled himself very well against the older and stiffer competition on the Cape this past summer for Falmouth after big years at TCU. Taylor has a short, simple swing from the left side with good upper body rotation and whippy bat speed. Taylor’s profile is actually carried by the bat, showcasing loud line drive and fly ball exit velocities to his pull-side. Taylor shows a keen eye at the plate, refusing to expand his zone in favorable counts and commonly walking more than he punches out. He played a bit of second base, but with good range to his right and a strong arm, he projects a more natural fit at third base if he’s forced off the shortstop position. He is an average runner.

Any chance we can get this guy?
ReplyDeleteHe would have been there at 1.22
ReplyDeleteNot 1.32
Mack, we have to get pitchers. I honestly think that this team's offense is set for the next several years if we get Correa, between stars and hitting prospects. Pitching? Best case scenario, we are short. Worst case scenario, we are very short.
ReplyDeletePerhaps an article for you or me to tackle in the weeks ahead.
I will post one on Sunday on 5 pitchers we should target in the 1.32 pick
DeleteGreat.
