Baseball in Education Day: 

Today’s game marks the 18th annual Baseball in Education Day at Mirabito Stadium. Twelve local schools from around the Southern Tier will be represented at today’s game with nearly 1,000 students in attendance. The Rumble Ponies will host another BIE Day on Tuesday, May 23 against Richmond. 

JT Smoove: With his second home run of the series on Friday, JT Schwartz now leads the Eastern League with 15 RBIs this season. Schwartz is on a six-game hitting streak and has recorded four multi-hit games and three three-RBI games this year. The former fourth-round pick has 14 hits, seven extra base hits, five doubles, two home runs, seven runs, and five walks in 13 games this season. 

Bullies in the Pen: The Rumble Ponies bullpen has been electric over the last four games. Dedniel Núñez, Nate Lavender (2 APP), Sammy Tavarez, Hunter Parsons, Marcel Rentería, William Woods, and Kolby Kubichek have combined to throw 14 scoreless frames in relief with 14 strikeouts. Lavender has two saves in the series, including a seven-pitch ninth inning with two strikeouts in Friday’s game at Hartford. Núñez, Tavarez, and Kubichek all threw three scoreless innings with nine combined strikeouts in their outings. 

Series Winners: Binghamton claimed its first series win of the season at Hartford last week, winning three out of five games with the sereis finale being postponed. The Rumble Ponies won their first series of 2022 in the final week of May. RubberDucks Roster: 

The Akron RubberDucks roster features seven of the Cleveland Guardians’ top 30 prospects by MLB Pipeline: No. 1 Daniel Espino (IL), No. 2 Gavin Williams, No. 10 Angel Martínez, No. 17 Petey Halpin, No. 19 Joey Cantillo, No. 22 Tanner Burns, No. 24 Jose Tena, and No. 30 Doug Nikhazy. 

Upcoming Schedule: Binghamton will face the Akron RubberDucks on Wednesday night Mirabito Stadium with first pitch set for 6:05 PM. The game will be broadcast on WNBF News Radio 1290 AM and 92.1 FM, and MiLB.TV and the Bally Live App.

  1. JT Schwartz has a remarkable swing. It is worth coming to the ball park just to see him swing a bat. Smooth, effortless, square to the ball over and over. This guy is going to hit.

    Nunez had such good outings, he has already been promoted to AAA as of yesterday.

  2. Nice 3 hit 3 RBI game for Jose Peroza, Paul. He is my dark horse.

    Will Schwartz generate enough pop? Time will tell.

    Dedniel is post-Tommy John, and maybe he gets to Queens in the not too distant future.
