PIITB By JD- Weekly recap
Record: 3-2 (won series finale vs. Dodgers. 2-2 vs. Giants)
Dodgers series: (2-1)
The Mets took the series finale in LA, beating the Dodgers 5-3 behind a combination of Scherzer, Yacabonis, and the rest of the regulars. Scherzer was ejected from the game after the 3rd inning for “sticky stuff”. Phil Cuzzi has now ejected all 3 of the pitchers ejected for sticky stuff this year. Max washed his hands with alcohol upon request from the umpires in front of an MLB official and was still suspended and fined. MLB has essentially stated that he used too much rosin and sweat (both legal). This was a subjective decision and Max accepted his 10-game suspension.
Nimmo went 5-5 during the series finale with 2 RBIs and Canha also tacked on 2 RBIs. Good series win overall. Not onto San Francisco.
Giants series (2-2)
Senga struggled in game 1, going 5 innings and giving up 4 runs. He also walked 4 batters highlighting his continued command issues to start off the year. Pete added 4 rbis and the Mets won 9-4. Game 2 was the Churve show. Joey Luchessi went 7 scoreless, striking out 9. Pete had another 4 RBIs and the Mets won 7-0.
Games 3 and 4 were disappointing. Peterson gave up 7 runs across 5 innings of work. He did not look in control of his stuff. Peterson has not looked good and his peripherals do not indicate improvement is coming. Bad game, the Mets lost 7-4.
Game 4 was very winnable. Tylor went 4 innings, giving up 1 run. Brigham went 2 innings, saving the pen. Buck then went to Smith in the 8th and he gave up a run causing a 5-4 loss. I love Drew Smith, but Ottavino and Robertson were both fully rested with an off day the next day. There is no excuse to have him in there. Buck said after the game that he sees those three as “equal”, which is not the case in my opinion. Otto and Robertson are in the next tier.
Coming up with have 3 with the Nats and 4 against the Braves for the next week. LFGM
you are welcomed to forget last night's game ever was played
ReplyDeleteAgree with you. Ottavino and Robertson > Drew Smith.
ReplyDeleteGlad Alvarez got a scratch hit last nite. Really helps the average.
Dom Smith still has no XBHs this year, and no HRs since mid-Jul 2021.
Butto walks? Ugh. At least he muddled thru. Yacabonis was not rocking it last nite.
ReplyDeleteMarte fanning with bags full, 2 out on a 3-2 count was sad.
Marte looks hurt to me
ReplyDeleteTo me, Marte is just frustrated because he can't get his rhythm back after the neck injury. Once he starts making solid contact, I think he'll be back to himself. Can't come soon enough, as the Mets need a spark after these last three games.
ReplyDeleteTo JD's point, it was odd that Buck went to Smith, leaving Otta Boy and Robertson to rest. Then last night he uses Otta in the last inning of a lost cause "to get some work". We all make mistakes - I still have loads of confidence in Buck.
Sometimes Buck (like Gary) seems more concerned with tomorrows BP than todays game.
