The decision for the Mets to go old age with the rotation has already started to push back at that decision. Quintana is down for the count, Carrasco is from hunger, and both Verlander and Scherzer are showing early signs of body breakdowns. Add to this the probable 10-game suspension coming down on Max and, well...
First the suspension. It doesn't matter who is right or who isn't anymore. The ump made his ruling and Max paid the price. Sticky stuff was the reason given, so I can't see anything ahead but the suspension, but the Mets could (and probably will) appeal that and the decision could be overturned, especially since one of the ump honchos was also involved in this incident.
Still, for now, the Mets must make plans for the next five game.
There are no solutions for this that stand. Peterson is hemorrhaging, Megill hase his thumb in the dike, Butto and Lucchese look to be next, Dylan Bundy is doing his best Mark Appel imitation, and hell, you may see Alex Valverde before the year ends. There’s back end help on the way (Hamel, Vasil), but they won’t arrive until 2024.
The Mets play the next four days in a row again the Giants and then have a day off. For now, the rotation seems to lined up as:
Today: Senga
Tomorrow: Lucchesi (probably)
Saturday: Peterson
Sunday: Megil
Denyi Reyes was sent to Syracuse yesterday to be stretched out... Jose Butto will be ready to return, if needed, next week.
Past that, who the heck knows?
No, on paper this was a great rotation, but the paper looks like something that was stuck in your printer and you had to pull it out by hand.
No reason to go hindsight here. What’s done is done and thank God the hitters are hitting.
Right?
Sometimes the best laid plans…. Maybe $ can’t buy happiness.
ReplyDeleteMad Max must be really P.O. A very interesting year so far.

ReplyDeleteAnd I think this is only the beginning of a bad relationship for him with the umps this season
Stretch out another guy - Mike Vasil - dude can pitch. Let's push him along. We may need him by mid year.
ReplyDeleteI write about Hamel on Friday
DeleteI know it's water over the dam but I didn't get why they chose Quintana over Walker as they didn't seem to want him and don't know why he was our guy and was solid for us. I hope this isn't why Mauricio is still at SS for trade value because I really want to see him play for the big club.
ReplyDelete"The hitters are hitting"?? Going into yesterday's game our team BA was .221, which was 28th of 30 teams.
ReplyDeleteCombining that with the state of our pitching, hiw do we still have a winning record? Did Billy secretly hire Penn & Teller as special coaches?
