Tom Brennan - Another Look at Jose Peroza and Daniel Juarez

Will the radar system track these 2 objects all the way to Queens?

I always like to start out by saying Jose is 6 months younger than Brett Baty. Jose is still 22.

I like, with any player, to look at recent trends.

What he has hit over his career doesn’t mean as much as the “lately” stuff.

Here is “recent Jose.”

In July-Sept 2022 for Brooklyn, he was 70 for 207 (.340), with 18 doubles, 6 HRs, 31 RBIs, and 28 BBs.

Injured early in 2023, he has played just 21 games, 18 in AA. After a slow first few games, he still has 5 doubles, 5 HRs and 21 RBIs.

Add the entire stretch together and he is 90 for 282, 23 doubles, 11 HRs, 52 RBIs, 37 walks.

Just 9 errors in 133 games at 2nd and 3rd over all of 2022 and 2023, too.

I’m impressed.

Put him on your radar screen. He deserves to be there.

DANIEL JUAREZ

The little 22 year old lefty reliever in Brooklyn in 12 innings has no earned runs, 17 Ks, 0.69 WHIP.

Career, 9-3, 2.32, 120 innings, 175 Ks.

Sweet.

Another Queens-bound object showing up on the radar screen. Track him.

  1. Morning Tom

Right now, I agree on both these guys.

Peroza being played at second also to expand his chances down the road.

I expect him to end the season in AAA

  2. Juarez us off to a great "relief, not start" this season.

Relievers are hard to project. So many burn out early.

Let's see what he does at this level for awhile.

  3. Mack, as you know, I like results. These two guys are producing. I wish them well.

I think Peroza will be ready for the Mets by opening day 2024 - which probably means we'll see him in some capacity by mid-2024.

By opening day 2024, most likely we will have seen the end of Canha, Escobar, Pham, Vogelbach and (I am guessing, due to his rising salary) Guillorme. Without importing Ohtani mid-season by trading prospects, I can see most of the at bats from those spots those spots filled by Vientos, Mauricio, and Peroza.

Maybe Rudick as a 5th outfielder. On base 44 times in 26 games this year, 44 times in his last 22 last year. Seems he could be a decent on base guy in the majors. More likely, Cohen will want to make another splash, instead. Just avoid head-first splashes from diving into puddles. That can hurt for a long time.

It's only a matter of time before Mauricio and Vientos are called up and the Mets have to turn to reconstructing a positively producing utility system.

Both these two would fit that bill in 2024

  5. I feel that there are very few prospects so far they are doing anything that they deserve a promotion. I can see Peroza doing that and Vasil and Foster at Brooklyn. There are very few position players doing much of anything. I am not including relievers in this discussion only starters and position players. So far I am disappointed with their top prospects from last year draft.
    Do you agree?

    1. I do but no teams graduate a bunch each year.

      My projection for the next "graduation";

      2b. Mauricio
      DH Vientos
      UT C Sanchez
      UT IF Peroza
      UT OF Medick
      LHRP Lavender

  6. Kumar Rocker pitching strongly in High A. Considering the Mets’ pitching situation, in hindsight, perhaps they should have pulled that trigger.

    1. What I never understand was the fact that the Mets had no problem drafting J T Ginn and then placing him on a year long DL but they couldn't do that with Kumar

Must have been pissed with his agent for deception

  7. Should this even be a question when Pham, EE, Luis, Canha, Nido and Marte are producing nothing of worth and still get AB's? How much time do we waste waiting for this bunch "to come around"? When it comes to Rocker does anyone believe we won't regret that decision. Looking at Cots the other day it surprised me that our payroll is over 100 million more than the Dodgers because that is just embarassing and makes you wonder how much longer Eppy survives.
