The Daily Mets Minor League Update - June 17th

Morning.

 Tranactions:

            None reported to me.

Player Of The Day -

There were so many ways to go this night with this award.

If this was a horse race…

WIN goes to an outing we have been waiting for all season from this guy… CLONES RHSP Blade Tidwell had it all, going 7-IP, 0-R, 6-K, and lowered his once out of control ERA to 4.14. Let’s see if this is the rule going forward, rather than the exception.

PLACE would be the staple on this award receiver… SYR LF Ronny Mauricio went 4-6, 2-R, 11th HR, 2-RBI, raising his BA/OPS to .326/.918. One caveat would be another outfield throwing error, his total 15th of the season from both short and left.

SHOW: There has been some serious hitting done so far this season at the DSL level and no one has had a better day than SS Branny De Oleo did yesterday - 2-4, 3-R, Grand Slam HR (1), 4-RBI, .407, .868. Our first DSL POD this season.

Syracuse:

2B Danny Mendick - 3-5, 2-R, 2-doubles (10), .257

SS Jonathan Arauz - 2-5, R

3B Luke Ritter - 2-5, R

B-Mets:

Christian Scott thrives as a starter in Mets system -

Christian Scott spent most of his college career at Florida pitching out of the bullpen as a late-inning reliever. He began to show flashes of dominance when he posted a 1.20 ERA in seven appearances during the truncated 2020 season. In his junior year, he struck out a career-best 51 batters and held the opposition to a .230 batting average in 54 innings.

Although Scott was a highly effective reliever in Gainesville, Florida, the New York Mets believed his stuff could translate well to the starting rotation. They began preparing him for that role a year after drafting him in the fifth round of the 2021 MLB draft.

CF Brandon McIlwain - 2-4, 13th double, .261

RHRP Trey McLoughlin - 2-OP, 0-R, 3-K, 3.00

Cyclones:

Going into the game…

Ernest Dove (@ernestdove)  - Not sure why he's still in High A but Brooklyn Cyclones SP Tyler Stuart this season.

11 starts  55 inn  44 H  9 ER (1.47 ERA)  19 BB  67 K

.218 opp AVG

Justin Rocke (@JustinRocke)  -

It was the Drake Osborn Game tonight for the @BKCyclones in Aberdeen. Break up a no-hit bid with a solo home run in the 6th. Drive in 2 on just the 2nd hit allowed by RH Keagan Gillies this year in the 7th. Add ANOTHER solo blast in the 9th.

Brooklyn Cyclones (@BKCyclones) -

Crabcakes and dingers....that's what Drake Osborn does!

The Cyclones back stop with his second home run of the night and his 4th RBI.   Osborn now has six home runs including four in his last five games.

RHRP Dylan Tebrake - 2-IP, 0-R, 3-K, 2.55, 0-91-WHIP

St. Lucie:

Going into game…

Ernest Dove (@ernestdove)  - Jett Williams last 4 games for St. Lucie Mets  -  6 for 11  1 double  1 HR  5 BB  1 K

Game suspended in 2nd inning at 0-0. Game will be finished today.

FCL:

CF Simon Juan - 2-5

RF Willy Fanas - 3-run HR (1)

LF Jefrey De Los Santos - 2-5, R, double (2), .455, 1.174-OPS

1B Yohairo Cuevas - 2-3, .320, .980-OPS

C Christopher Suero - 2-3, double (1), .467, 1.352-OPS

DSL:

B Team -

LHSP Franklin Gomez - 2-IP, 0-ER, 4-K, 1.13

O Team -

 Going into game…

Ernest Dove (@ernestdove)  - Mets recent 7 figure bonus baby Anthony Baptist has started his pro career slow in DSL but during current 4 game hitting streak he's 6 for 17, 2 triples, 1 HR and 2 SBs.

DH Dalverson Gutierrez - 2-4, 2-R, double (2)

RHRP Elwis Mijares - 3.1-IP, 0-R, 3-K, 0.00, 0.97-WHIP

  2. Hi,

How does the Mets handle their two catchers at HIGH A? One is first round pick Parada who is muddling at this level and striking out two much. What happened to all the homers he had in college? Next is Osborn who carried the offense yesterday with two homers and 4 RBIs. Maybe if we give this player some more playing time he will be great. I think the Mets should go 50-50 with them.
    What is your thinking?

    1. Good question

Expect one to move very soon to hitter friendly AA parks

  3. Ronny is Ready. But he will not be rushed, as Vientos' under-performance gives them an excuse.

With Vasil and Hamel struggling as they go higher, my excitement about the exploits of Scott and Tidwell have to be constrained.
