The Daily Mets Minor League Update - June 15th

Morning.

Tranactions:

SYR IF Tyler White placed on the 7-day Injured List

SYR OF Tanner Murphy activated off the Development List

Player Of The Day -

This one is pretty simple and iy’s good to see the return here of the last of the Mets Big 4 Studs stuck in the Minors. Yes, as you will read below, SYR LF… yes, that’s right… left fielder Ronny Mauricio made up for his early defensive jitters and went 3-5, 2-R, with 2-RBIs generated by his 9th and 10th home run of the season.

Syracuse:

Mets News and Links (@JohnFromAlbany) -

Ronnie Maurico gets his 1st start in LF for the Syracuse Mets and even though he made an error on the first ball hit to him - this is the right move as his arm and speed will play well in the OF #Mets

 https://t.co/Ln8kY7ixlc

Mike Cecconi (@Cecconi140)  - McNeil is a much much much better 2B than Mauricio. If Ronny is even, like, a little below average in LF or RF, the defensive difference is vastly smaller between them at an OF corner. It just makes sense.

Tim Healey (@timbhealey) - The Mets activated Long Island's Stephen Ridings from the IL and optioned him to Triple-A. With the Mets likely to see more bullpen turnover than normal over the next week-plus, he is very much a candidate for a call-up.

B-Mets:

Mets News and Links - @JohnFromAlbany - Rowdey Jordan gives the Rumble Ponies  the lead in game 2 of Thursday nights double header - a 2 run HR - his 8th - that proved to be the winning run.

Game 1:

1B Joe Suozzi - 2-2, HR (1), 2-RBI, .327, .873

Game 2:

RF Brandon McIlwain - 2-5, .253

RHSP Christian Scott - 6-IP ER, 9-K, 1.50

Cyclones:

Ernest Dove (@ernestdove) - Mets IF prospect D'Andre Smith has now quietly played in 6 games for High A Brooklyn starting 9 for 21 with 3 SBs. Has not played many games since being drafted last year. I felt his swing last year could generate power when he makes contact.

RF Omar De Los Santos - 2-4, double (11)

RHRP Wilkin Ramos - 3.2-IP, 0-R, 4-K, 1.67, 1.08-WHIP

St. Lucie:

Ernest Dove (@ernestdove) - (through Wednesday) St. Lucie Mets 19 yr old 3B Jacob Reimer still scorching through June:

13 gm        6 XBH (5 doubles, HR)    .370/.491/.543/1.034

Ernest Dove (@ernestdove) - (through Wednesday)Jett Williams is 4 for 8 to start the current St. Lucie Mets series against Palm Beach Cardinals.  He was 3 for 19 against this team back in May.

CF Rylan Thomas - 4-5, R, 3-doubles (9), .305, .812

3B Junior Tillen - 2-4, 2-R, HR (6), 3-RBI

1B Jose Hernandez - 2-4, 2-RBI, .267, .967-OPS

FCL:

Florida Complex League Mets (@FCLMets)  -

By the skin of our teeth!

CF Nick Morabito: 2-5, RBI

3B Yonatan Henríquez: 1-3, 2 RBI, 2 BB

DH Jefrey De Los Santos: 2-2, 2 RBI, BB

RHSP Rodolfo Garrido: 3 IP, H, R, 3 K

RHRP José Mariano Gómez: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, K

RHRP Jonaiker Palacios: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, K

DSL:

B Team -

RF Reniel Diaz - 2-4, R, double (1), .261, .879-OPS

2B Wuilder Cumare - 2-3, .444, 1.027-OPS

RHSP Franyel Diaz - 4-IP, 0-R, 7-K, 1.04, 1.44-WHIP

O Team -

RHRP Edgardo Castro - 2-IP, 0-R, K, 0.00, 0.88-WHIP

Alumni:

SNY Mets - Matt Harvey is working for a commercial real estate firm following his retirement from baseball

Harvey: “I’ve always been interested in the many different aspects of real estate. I will be able to learn and grow from some of the best in the industry"

Draft News:

JJ Cooper (@jjcoop36) - College baseball has bat testing before each series. But  coaches, players and officials say they don't believe that's keeping illegally tampered bats from getting into games, and the risk of getting caught is seen as incredibly unlikely.

Juicy's MLB Mock draft 2023 1.0 -

32. New York Mets | Aidan Miller, 3B, Mitchell HS (FL)

A healthy Aidan Miller deserves to go higher than this, but 19-year-old prep corner infielders with hamate injuries tend to fall a bit in the draft, especially when they have the leverage to demand a high bonus to sign. The Mets are reportedly in on Morales and Wilken, and have a history of just grabbing the biggest falling name under Eppler. Miller fits the slugging 3B description, as well as the flashy sign demographic. When healthy, all Miller has done is hit, including leading Team USA with a .478/.594/1.000 line. This would be a steal here, as Miller could go as high as eighth without shocking me and belongs in the teens. With over $8.4M in bonus pool, the Mets can afford to go over slot here and get their guy.

  1. Glad to see Harvey is not a baseball lifer. Best of everything with his new career course.

Ronny Mo - imagine if he switches to the outfield, relaxes more, and hits even better as a result?

    Rowdey….and Suozzi…are HITTING.

Christian Scott going strong. Great AA outing…another legit guy on the radar screen.

    Rudick rocks.

    1. I want to see where they play Ronny for the next 5 games before I sign off on this move

  2. Extremely early, but it weird to see some of the higher bonus gouys struggle, and see Wuilder Cumare, who is still 16 years old, come out of the gate with 4 hits in his first 9 at bats.

    1. Yeah

The big bonus babies seem to be taking the money and running away

  3. I am pleased to see that Mauricio came back and started to hit right away. Sometimes the time off for injury impacts muscle memory and a player can fall into a slump. Mauricio was super hot before he went down and to pick up where he left off legitimatizes his hitting ability.

    1. I agree.

He will eventually get to Queens as a bat first LF or DH

  4. O.K. so Ronnie's 2 HR's 111.7 mph 431 ft. and 111.1 mph 441 ft. and were worried about what position he play's???? DH DH DH he can work on his outfield play in the winter and who are the idiots that didn't have him make the switch to the outfield in winter ball? Let's also DFA porky ASAP as I still can't believe they're still talking about him. A mental break really? I need a mental break from hearing his name again. Tom/Mack who is the next pitcher up from Cuse in your opinion?

  5. Gary, that wasn't Mauricio - it was a Darryl Clone.

I'd call up Joey. It is possible Ridings could be ready soon, but I only want him if/when ready.
