If the season ended today the top 4 payrolls in baseball all miss the playoffs, 5 out of the top 6 are out also. Dodgers being only current playoff team. Having a owner who can spend is great, has to be spent wisely to even have a chance though

Ernest Dove  (@ernestdove)

This is incredible. Speaks to the issues perhaps that can come from high payroll teams overpaying to beat amongst themselves going for same players while tanking teams can load up on picks and pre arb/arb studs IF developed right perhaps with their prospects at times.

Just Mets (@just_mets)

The Mets since their 6-game winning streak ended…

0-4

1 run per game

4.76 ERA

5 errors

Trading Period Stuff

Tim Ryder (@TimothyRRyder)

David Robertson has a 0.52 ERA (.164/.250/.262, 23 K, 7 BB, 17.1 IP) over his last 15 postseason appearances going back to G7 of the 2017 ALCS

Mets should really push that HARD to inquiring teams. likely a very attractive characteristic for contenders

Mets History:

Baseball by BSmile (@BSmile)

Today In 1977: Legendary NYC center fielders Duke Snider, Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays & Joe DiMaggio are introduced by Lindsey Nelson during an amazing Old Timers' Day at Shea Stadium!

Baseball In General:

Butch Baccala (@butchbaccala)

Players to advance to the next level, you need tools that can become skills combined with game awareness and instincts. Yes Makeup is important but without these above traits, more than likely you will be missed. Game awareness and Instincts huge commonality in good players.

MIND.

Did I mention it was hot, it was never hot in Bob Gibson’s day in oppressive heat of summer of St. Louis. They tell me there is this climate change thing going on. You know what, baseball is played in the summer when it is hot.

 Some pitchers like it hot

Junior Santos making his reliever debut right now for AA Bingo after 15 starts this season. I was told by a source about this move occurring and discussed during the break as the time to do it.

Santos just clocked at 98 MPH to the next batter. I remember back in Lucie he would rely on that velo when falling behind in a count or game situation. My concern was overthrowing but this pitch was a strike.

Postgame Notes:

Wyatt Young and Fryman recorded multi-hit games with two singles each…

Daison Acosta tossed a perfect inning in relief…

Dedniel Núñez tossed a scoreless frame out of the bullpen with a strikeout…

  2. Saw this: Taking time on the Injured List is not an option for Jeff Passan at this busy time of year.

The ESPN MLB insider announced on Twitter on Monday that he suffered a broken back during a yardwork accident in recent days. “Sorry I haven’t been posting lately,” Passan wrote. “During cleanup after a big storm in KC, a large tree limb decided to crush me. The good news: I still have use of my arms, legs and Twitter fingers. The bad news: I have a broken back.”

  5. Seems like William Lugo is getting back on track after whatever injury kept him out the first 6 weeks plus a couple of months where he couldn’t get on track. Possibly a hand or wrist injury? Whatever, he’s hitting now and expecting a big second half for the still-20 yr old.
