Tom Brennan - Love Rookie & DSL Ball; Baty Slam; DJ Stewart

Guppies are Great Fun.

Three Guppy teams (2 in DSL, one in FCL), three games yesterday:

30 runs, 33 hits, 9 errors, 16 walks, 34 Ks for the hitters.

One DSL game, the hitters walked 6 times and fanned 17 times.

How did the Mets do win-wise?

Won 2 of 3.  Even 30 runs for 3 teams doesn't guarantee a sweep.

Wall to wall action.

Gotta love it.

The higher 4 teams, BTW, lost 3 of 4.

The one game they won?

Jerad Eickhoff pitched for the AAA opposing team!

1-3, 6.75 in 39 innings.  One ponders...

Why on earth is he still pitching?

But Brett Baty was happy he did.

He hit a grand slam off Eickhoff last night. Which kind of tempers the excitement of Baty hitting a grand slam, in my mind.

After all, Eickhoff has allowed a HR every 6 AAA innings in 2022 and 2023.  He also in 2021 and 2022 in the majors threw 24 innings, gave up a staggering 34 runs on 11 HRs.

He essentially throws batting practice and should instead consider being a spokesperson for BP.

Go, rooks!

DJ STEWART:

2 HRs Wednesday after a pinch HR Tuesday, plus an excellent throw from RF to help cut down Cutch at the plate.

Have we found our 4/5 outfielder for 2024?

Stewart in his MLB career now has 30 HRs in 573 ABs, 81 RBIs, and .215.  Like Schwarber without the price tag.  Including his AAA numbers this year, 20 HRs in 234 ABs, not shabby.

Cohen can use a little cheap help. This DJ is having a better year than pricey DJ Lemahieu, too.

While on the Stewart subject, Tyler Stuart again found out AA can be tougher. 2 scoreless innings, followed by a 3 run third. He pitched 3, gave up 3 hits, 3 walks, 3 runs…but 3X2=6 Ks.

Lastly, Luisangel Acuna is just .154 as a Met so far. Hmmm…

And Matt Rudick is back on the IL. Again. Heal quickly, Matt. Injuries suck.

  1. Tom, watching Baty go right back to killing AAA pitching makes me wonder what happened in Queens. Is the chasm from one level to another so high or is there more to the story? I would let the kid get some more confidence but if this continues bring him back up and let Medwick be a mop up pitcher and backup since Vientos isn’t out there every day.

    1. Baty was rushed in AAA

Let him finish the AAA season there

  2. Let Baty bash until AAA season’s end on Sept 24 Then bring him back. He can have a chip on his shoulder for 2024.

    Let Vientos sink or swim.

Mendick had the jitters, next time he pitches, he’ll be lights out.

  3. DJ Stewart 2 homers today and a great throw from RF corner. Look at his career #’s. Like Schwarber Light. Why not him as a 4th or 5th OF?
