HIP, HIP, HIP, HOORAY FOR JOEY!!!!!
Joey Lucchesi has had to fight through a lot as a Met.
Tommy John surgery knocked him out of part of 2021 and all of 2022. When he did pitch in 2021, they didn’t score for him, either.
Comes back in 2023, the Mets use him early, he pitches reasonably well, and get sent down anyway, due to baseball having turned into a pitcher shuttle between the majors and AAA. Sucks.
Then, down in AAA, he pitches terrifically, but suddenly, in 3 minors starts, he’s hammered…14 innings and 17 runs allowed - in late June to mid-July.
Suddenly suck?
No, no, no, just hurt. Left knee tendinitis, which can make it hard to pitch.
3 weeks on the IL, gets healed, then two minor league starts and an August 18 Mets return start: 14.2 innings, one run, and a Mets win.
Joey Brilliance.
He is 2-0, 3.54 as a Met this season.
Joey just threw his hat into a wide open rotation ring.
It landed at Billy Eppler’s feet.
Pick it up, Billy, before someone else does.
Well, Joey is under team control for 2024, so we can relax a bit.
I don’t know much, but one thing I know:
We need our pal Joey in Queens.
P.S. McNeil heats up. .293 with 19 RBIs in his last 30 games. McNeil again.
P.P.S. New top prospects Acuna and Gilbert went 6 for 8 and a HBP and 5 RBIs last night, while the rest of the team had 3 hits in a 7-4 win.
Cream rises.
IF JOSE PEROZA placed on temp inactive list
ReplyDeleteIF CESAT BERBESI transfer from Syracuse to Birmingham
RE:
ReplyDeleteLucchesi - based.on industry standards alone, he could easily be an SP 5 next season. Remember, only 20 qualified starters IN THE LEAGUE have an ERA under 3.50
RE: ACÙNA AND GILBERT
ReplyDeleteBOTH will be starters in 2025
Their participation in 2024 will be based on what they do the rest of this season, in winter ball, and how they start off at AAA next spring
RE: 1B NOLAN SCHANUEL
ReplyDeleteLAA promotes him to majors 6 weeks after they drafted him
Joey is a great song by Concrete Blond but its about an alcoholic which I hope he's not (like the sad story of Sudden Sam Mcdowell) anyway Tom "Billy Don't be a Hero" by Paper Lace or Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods though it doesn't really apply here I liked those songs. Sorry I'll get back on track and I know it's too late but I find I'm rooting for wins and getting excited about the "Don't Quit" mentality and the news from the farm.
ReplyDeleteYou sound this morning like the song "don't stop believing "...
ReplyDeleteLOL yup
ReplyDeleteMy life has always been about songs as they bring me back to a time and place and how blessed I feel about being around for the 50's and 60's. Funny story when I got married I wanted The Doors "Light my Fire" as our wedding song but my wife had other ideas. Mack and Tom do you know how much money comes off the books after next season?
ReplyDeleteOur song down the isle was Let It Be
DeleteFirst dance - Lay Lady Lay
Coming.off the books
DeleteCarrasco. 14mil
Gott. 1.2mil
Almonte. 600k
That's all
Unless he falls off a cliff, Gott will be here next year, at least through ST.
DeleteBut Vogie, whom I have defended most of the time, looks like he's done, at least here.
Flexen is also coming off the books, along with some of the players we traded (Canha?).
DeleteThe other song choice was "Touch Me" also by the Doors....that didn't make the cut either.
ReplyDeleteI just got a tooth pulled, so if you expected me to reply sooner, suture self.
ReplyDeleteSchanuel? Wow. Zipped right by Mauricio, huh?
Paul Skenes hooked up with Olivia Dunne
ReplyDeleteIm very happy that Lucchesi has one more year of team control. Things just havent worked out overall during his Mets tenure but want him to get this one more chance next year.
ReplyDeleteChristian Scott down for undisclosed injury
ReplyDeleteOn Joey…. My favorite line from that song for some reason: “all is forgiven, listen, listen.” and “if you hear this some Joey, I’m not angry any more”.
ReplyDeleteAlways liked that song.
Scott injury? Good grief.
ReplyDeletePeroza’s bat has been inactive for a while.
ReplyDeleteSongs? How about Joey to the Lassie whistle, Lassie Come Home. Joey is finally back home.
ReplyDeleteRetained salaries are $49 million and Deferred salaries $1.5 million. Total committed, including those? Around $200 million, per Spotrac.
ReplyDeleteMr Mack I think the Yanks might beat the Mets out of a lottery ticket.
ReplyDelete23 million this year on Cano which is his last year I believe.
ReplyDeleteWhen the New York Mets signed right-handed pitcher Kodai Senga from Japan, they expected him to boost their starting rotation. Thanks to a new MLB rule, he may also enhance their 2024 draft class as well.
ReplyDeleteMLB and the MLB Players Association settled on new rules to curtail service time manipulation as part of the Basic Agreement prior to the 2022 season. One of these rules grants teams an extra draft pick after the first round if they have a player who accrues a full year of service time and finishes in the top three in the Rookie of the Year voting or top five in MVP or Cy Young voting.
That wiukd apply to Alvarez, too!
ReplyDeletewould
ReplyDeleteAnd our pal Joey gets optioned back to Syracuse. Kolarek up. This king of merry-go-round crap is a sickening aspect of today’s game.
ReplyDelete38 games to go, 34 Mets have pitched from the mound this year already, vs. 15 in 1969 and 1986.
ReplyDeleteLast 7 games, Cookie Carrasco is 1-3, 7.18, but Joey gets sent down, and the Carrasco Fiasco rolls on. Baseball sucks in that respect. I hope Lucchesi is now out of options.
ReplyDeletePrediction,Luchessi will be Comeback Player of Year in 2024, 10-7 with 3.94 ERA.
